New Grower creating an AF strain

I have been farming auto flowers for about a year now and I have become interested in trying to create a "cross auto flower".
Ive made crosses between plants before but never tried to blend a 12/12 plant with an auto flower.. I got some AF seeds from a friend of mine a while back, however the actual strain is unknown, I recently came across some grand daddy purp seeds. heres my idea:

GDP hydro male X unknown hydro AF female

GDP hydro female x unknown hydro AF male

then picking the best of the 2 crops and crossing them... my hope was to create a autoflowering GDP..

any thoughts?

Its not always a simple process if you crossed them once it would only be 50% gdp

Personally, I wouldn't use an unknown strain for breeding. If I were going to undertake a project like that I'd get some Low Ryder IIs or maybe some AK47, and use it instead. I would want to know the genetic background of all the plants I was using so I could breed for the desired properties of the strains.

What Muddy saqys is very right. The reason people tend to use a certain bunch of breeds is because they seem to have dominant positive genes. Usually the great pots have Skunk 1, Northern Lights 5, Afghani 1 or Jack Herer in their gene pool. If you stay with something that has a good record of throwing positive gene action your chances of success go way up. Yeah breeding is always a crap shoot so get your odds more in your favour and get something decent for at least half the genes.

if i understand the genetics correctly the first 'breed' will be 50% AF and 50% GDP, then i would have to re-cross them back again the second generation to get more than 50% mix..

I'm not a breeder but from listening to the many breeders here I've learned that it takes at least 5 generations to get all autoflowering plants, then several more generations to stabilize the strains. Lots of good breeders here, some who sell their seeds in the e-Shop. Check out the Breeders Den also.

I think the 50/50 rule is more like the 25/25/25/25 rule. I think the grandparents of your cross creep back into the mix and start to show themselves as well. Having one plant with really solid parentage helps keep your breeding on the straight and narrow. You may like your results better. Of course I always say if you are going to mix breeds you have to be prepared to go the extra mile to get good results. That means back breeding like you were talking about to reinforce certain aspects and for sure pheno selection to stabalise the pheno. Sometimes what you get for seeds is a joy and sometimes not so much. It sure is fun and I fully endorse going for it.

sorry for my bad english but let me try too explane a good way too make autoflowering strain
what i do wen i whant a new autoflowering strain a kwik way from a great stable type of cutting/ strain that i have. is make for cuttings from that great cutting and use 4 difriend male autoflowering strains to make seeds each cutting difriend male?

so you got for example
F1 GDP hydro X auto AK47
F1 GDP hydro X auto blueberry
F1 GDP hydro X LR2
F1 GDP hydro X auto Jem

now select in all thise the best GDP hydro types (select the best female the male;s will be harder too select becorse they are male)
now use for example the best GDP hydro female type from F1 GDP hydro X auto blueberry with a male F1 GDP hydro X auto Jem
and from best GDP hydro female type from F1 GDP hydro X LR2 with the F1 GDP hydro X auto AK47

you get F2's (let call it F2).from (GDP hydro X auto blueberry) X (GDP hydro X auto Jem)
and F2's from (GDP hydro X LR2) X (GDP hydro X auto AK47)
now you must grow a lot from thise F2's i most split the room one have the
(GDP hydro X auto blueberry) X (GDP hydro X auto Jem)
and other have
(GDP hydro X LR2) X (GDP hydro X auto AK47)
so like i sey you must grow a lot you must find the best type of plant that looks like GDP hydro and go autoflowering (so 24 hour light's on!)
than use for example a autoflowering type that look like GDP hydro Male from the (GDP hydro X LR2) X (GDP hydro X auto AK47)
and use that on a autoflowering GDP hydro type female from the (GDP hydro X auto blueberry) X (GDP hydro X auto Jem) to get F3
i aslo do it the other way around and bring thise F3's togeter for F4

this way you get the best autoflowering GDP hydro type becorse it will be Dominan in the cross
and its the fastest way.
