I am doing some autos as soon as I get my beans. This will be my first official grow. Using 400hps fox farms ocean soil, fox farms nutes, trio plus cha ching open sesame, and the other that I forget the name in a 4x4x6 ft high cabinet, painted flat white inside...............Question is, does anyone use the Fox Farm Nutes on your AF's? And if so, can you give me some sort of schedule????? Also, how far from the tops of the plants should I keep the 400HPS?????

I used the hand test and now I just know what works for my area. I run a 600 w HPS hortilux and can get it in around 16-18 inches. What I would do since I do not know how your ventilation will be or temps while running is when your all set up put your light about 2 feet from the top of the plant. Place your hand at the too of the plant. If your hand is not getting hot then you can lower it a little bit and do the same thing. If your hand is starting to get hot and the lights burning your hand it's def going to burn your plant. There are some rough charts I believe somewhere on the Internet and if I remember correctly you should be able to get it 14-20 inches from the top. It's a different story with CFLs and LEDs because they don't get that hot. You can have them almost touch the plant. MH gets the hottest and HPS is a close second. You should be fine with the hand test.

Thanks for the tip cap! I greatly appreciate all the info everyone gives me here:jump:

Make sure you mix in some Dolomite Lime to that soil to buffer pH. I am currently using FFOF and am having pH issues because I didn't add lime lol. I loosely follow FD's feed schedule for Fox Farm nutes. Here is what he has posted in his thread.

Week
1 pH water only

1.5 add in Big Bloom to the mix at 1/2 tea spoon

2 1/2tsp Grow Big 1/2 tsp Big Bloom

2.5 3/4 tsp of grow big

3 1tsp grow big and 1/2 Tiger bloom 1/2 tea spoon Big Bloom

3.5 1/2 tsp Grow Big 1/2tsp Tiger bloom

4 1tsp Tiger bloom 1/2 tsp Grow Big

4.5 Clean pH'ed water to clear out salt build up

5 2tsp tiger bloom 1/2 grow big

5.5 1 Teaspoon Grow Big

6 Begin Flush for the final weeks. At this point i can flush for a week before i begin to see yellowing of the fans.

I like to leave enough time to get all the salts out of there before the harvest. This stuff WILL salt up on you and cause build up and lock out.

No problem jhn. This is the reason I made an account here. Best autoflower forum out. Everyone is friendly and knows there stuff. When I need help I'm sure someone will have a suggestion for me. Good luck bro

Yea i use their basic 3. Start at 1/4th strength, if that works good try 1/2 every other watering.
Time wise you can somewhat compact this schedule, since autos have a shorter lifespan.

Roller, couple questions. how much Dolomite Lime should I add to the soil, and on the weeks on the feeding chart you posted, why does each have 2? Meaning, week 1, and then theres week 1.5, what is the extra 1.5 for?

And I have the open sesame, chaching, and the other one as well, do I use any of them, I thought most were added during flowering

The chart is for two feedings per week, hence the .5, that is the second feeding of the week. Use about 1 tablespoon of lime per gallon of FFOF. Yes you can use the open sesame and chaching and other additives. I would just cut back a bit on tiger bloom and substitute in the chaching and open sesame a week or two. I have not had any experience with those three products though, I just use Kangaroots (Mycorhizal root inoculant), FF trio, and MagiCal (Magnesium and Calcium), and Sledgehammer for flushing. I recommend a good root inoculant to help build up some mycorhizal fungi in the soil.

what kind of lime, powdered or the juice you get in the super market
