Lighting Cobshop.net info, questions and answers

Thanks lunarman...QED !!!...btw, I know how you feel, as a newey, I am never sure that a post will not unleash a barrage of abuse (as happens on so many web-sites)...happily, cobshop.net is civillised
Cheers...David
We try not to act uncivilized around here. It's much better to be helpful than hurtful. We all had to learn somehow!

Welcome to afn!

You won't see much of that on AFN [if any] Enjoy!!:pass:

Unless they come to the cobshop section with their disco light :rofl: @Heliman I used to be active in other forums before Afn. I am so happy with the overall vibe here I haven’t gone back. You will definitely appreciate and see the difference rather quickly.

No power yet again. Was hammered by the recent wind storm. These weather stations and their forecasts. 50% chance of clouds today, we had 70mph gusts lol. I know I know rubbing it in..... generator is running the grow 8x20 and under 1000 watts in total. Also powering dozens of cobs before they are boxed. To save electricity I lowered all my fan speeds down, raised the dehumidifier to 70% and unplugged a few cobs. Now down to 700watts and the ladies are still super happy.

Thanks all for your welcome and encouragement !!!
I have been growing autos for 2 years, and I grow them in my courtyard...our sun here is fierce and they could not cope with it, temp is often 45 C +.( plus they are safe from prying eyes of the Gestapo)
The courtyard is shaded..I get about 300 PPFD and I can keep the temp at best around 36 C. All in all it is not satisfactory, get leggy growth and poor yield.
Having just got 5 KW photo voltaics in my home thus have a lot of free, spare electricity, I have decided to try an indoor grow where I have full control of temp and hopefully with COB's, full control on day length and PPFD.
So I patiently await further supplies of COB's

Are you grid tied? If so you should be able to get a bi-directional meter. Not sure how it works where you are from but here we are supposed to get the same kw/h rate sent to the grid as we would pay. Less the service and delivery charges. If my wife didn’t want a new house I would have the largest PV farm in New England lol. I love clean energy. Not Toyota Prius clean, real clean energy. Grid tied PV systems are as pure as it gets. The power company burns less coal based on what is supplied by customers.

Honestly this is my only complaint with the legalization of MJ. The power consumed would blow us all away. They care about tax money more than anything. But will continue to piss revenue away and line their pockets before they invest in any productive alt energy systems to counter act the useage. One of the main reasons I like cob lighting. There is a huge energy savings. People will always consume MJ and I agree with it but I wish it didn’t have such a negative impact on the world.

I can opt out of the grid, but need battery storage...Just now, as emerging technology, storage batteries are too expensive. As volume sales increase, the price will come down and then I will go for power independence. For the moment I am compelled to send my surplus back to the Utility Company who pay me 1/3 of the rate they charge for usage (bastards !!!)...so I may as well use up the surplus doing something useful with it....

Thought this was kinda funny when I thought back at what I was actually doing. Brought my laptop and printer to home depot, power inverter plugged into the cig lighter and free WiFi to print the labels.

After about 2 weeks of running my cobs I'm very impressed how the girls are responding...

Running on the cob side of the tent I also have a mars hydro blurple going it's the 96model(200 watts) honestly I would just like to retire the mars, would the girls do fine under just the 2 3500k cobs for at least 2 to 3 more weeks until I purchase more

My 4x8 went from a lil under 600 watts most of that from mars blurples to now 300 watts 2 SK closet cases and 2 3500k cobs with that mars going puts me at 500

1st pic girls under just cobs 2nd pic shows the mars on as well

Happy you are seeing a difference already. It’s pretty a common occurrence under full spectrum lighting. It sounds like you have plenty of wattage going for the space. At this point any more cobs would really just help lower your overall wattage and heat. 2 cobs would out perform the m86. 200w vs 120. more light, less wattage, less heat.
