How'd all AFNer's. I have a question about cloning of a photo gal. Can you cut clones from a mother plant after she starts to flower. The mother in about a week into the flower stage and a few on the clones I took before are not doing the best and I need more cuttings. Am I too late and out of luck to do this?

Peace

You can definitely take clones off a flowering plant, they will root a bit slower but also seem to have a longer survival time than a veg clone. Once you have roots and plant it you will have to give it 20 to 24 hours light to reveg it. Any bud parts will start turning into weird looking leaves and stems with single bladed, sometimes twisted leaves. Eventually though it will start growing normal again and will be just as good a mother as long as she's not too old. It's called "monster cropping" because of all the stems that are produced, each calyx tries to become a stem and you end up with an explosion of growth from a small area.

How'd and thanks for the input surf. I got your message and the first thing I did when I got home was cut myself four new babies.

Now you said they take longer. Any ideas how long until they root and I can transplant in the soil.?

Unfortunately I have no idea exactly how long, different plants clone with different levels of ease. It may not even take much longer at all if it's one of those strains that just wants to pop roots at the drop of a hat.
I have 3 females and a male from the same pack of seeds with completely different rooting times, the male is very hard to clone (20+ days depending on health) and the 3 females never root at the same time as one another but are all done before the male.

It occurs to me that you might enjoy afn's sister site, potpros.net. its all about photoperiod cannabis. Your afn sign in info works there and you get all your afn/ppn notifications regardless of where you are. We could use the traffic!

How'd. Well its been three days and the clones are still looking green and perky. Hope that is a good sign.

Peace

I'm dealing with same situation. I'm not in a hurry though so wondering if it's best to go ahead and clone now or just wait till the new mom gets her shit straight first?

The only difference between taking them now compared to after a reveg is what they will look like. Do it now and it may be more branchy than if you waited for the full reveg and then cut.

Hi I'm having trouble taking cutting and for them to root what's the best way to take them, what kind of light etc thanks

Hey bud! :drunks:
Try cutting at a 45 degree angle about a quarter inch below the 4th or 5th node down from a growth tip. Immediately put your cuttings in water and then head to where you will put them in plugs or soil. When ready, take all the growth off the lower 1 inch of stem down to the 45 degree cut, dip this section in cloning gel or powder and insert it into the plug or soil. Make sure there is good contact between the plug/soil and stem, if you want to scrape off a bit of the outside layer of stem near the cut, there will be more areas for roots to grow from. You can now put them in a humidity dome and make sure it's very moist inside. I leave them without any direct light for the first 24 hours to let them recover from being cut, then they will go under weak fluorescent lights until they grow roots. Make sure you don't give them 24 hour light or they will take longer to root, 18/6 or 20/4 is good.
That's it in a nutshell, I wish you luck, let me know if you need any further help!
