New Grower Cheap Ghetto Build - 2nd Grow (1st was a failure)

3rd week update: She's looking more healthy than ever! Seems like she was underfed. I hope she continues to be healthy. Question about the light though, why does it have those lines when captured by a camera but I can't see it with my bare eyes. Is this a bad thing or are the cfls dying? This is the first time it has done that when taking a photo inside the space bucket.

4th week update: I think I have dialed in on the nutes. Small burnt tips but it's not spreading all over the leaves. She's looking happy and growing vigorously each and every day!! Question though, does it look like she has 2 tops?

Hi she wasnt underfed. More like overfed. I think you soil mix was too hot. As a seedl8ng you plants dont need any feed at all and what they take from the soil is more than enough. It your case i think the soild was providing too much and then you was adding nites on top.

Oh well although she had a hard start to life she seems to be on the up.

:yeahthat:
I generally don't give my seedlings any nutes until the second week or so. I do recommend getting a way to test the PH of your water. It is important to know the quality and ph of your water source.

Hi Nabzter, thanks for that. But I haven't given her any nutes until the yellowing showed up. After giving nutes, her color became better and turned to dark green. As I have read, correct me if I'm wrong, the babies need nutes when the bottom most leaves start yellowing. And then die eventually if not given nutes - Nitrogen def. They are under nitrogen toxicity if leaves are getting super dark then bottom leaves start dying.

Your post says you've been giving her nutes since week one, seedlings don't need any nutes my friend and from the pics nitrogen toxicity was never an issue yet as she still too young. You definitely have burned your roots from overfeeding so early on

I see. So if the leaves started to turn pale and almost white, that's overfeeding or soil was too hot? Ok, should have just left it and observed. :)

A little wait and see is never a bad thing, my friend. You would be surprised what these plants will do in just soil with water only. What I'm trying to say, is that more nutrients are not always the answer....sometimes it is, but you have to look at the whole situation.

I noticed that the cotys were also getting pale and dry. So I assumed that the 1st set of serated leaves were eating the cotys coz they were hungry.

Are you growing in only cow manure and rice hulls? Or did you mix those with some other soil?
Hey @stepside can you offer any advice here?
