Indoor Carbon Filter question

I found a carbon filter on amazon for like 109.00 but it doesn't ship for 3-5 weeks which sucks but for that cheap its worth waiting.

My question is can I just hook the fan directly up to the filter?

I read on one site that sells them that you want like a 6 inch piece of ducting in between the fan and the filter.

Also the noise factor: I have read elsewhere that the mufflers are a waste of money and that you can use a fan speed controller to reduce the noise factor.

I need the filter for tomato plant smells and also dust particles as my room tends to get dusty even though I vacuum often so I am hoping the carbon filter will help eliminate that issue.

I am looking at a 4 inch fan filter combo which as far as I know is the smallest solution.

I tell you if I was a wealthy person I would develop cheap but silent mini-carbon filter and fans for stealth growers cause you could make a freaking killing with all the closet/tent growers out there.

I use Phresh Filter.. also just throwing it out there.. if you get an oversized fan.. you can get variable speed control on her and cut her way back to keep things a tad bit more quiet. Cheers!

So by oversized you mean go for a 6inch fan filter and then I have more cfm to work with in terms of slowing the fan speed down while getting a good scrubbing?

Yeah get a fan thats rated at a CFM higher than the area you need to regulate... slow her down to where you still have some negative pressure in ur tent.."assuming you using a tent" this will cut down on the noise and let that air run over the carbon nice and slow for a nice scrub!

Nut slapper.. what is the brand of carbon filter ?? Some are junk and not worth any money...not even free, they dont work. Stick with a top brand name small filter... what size cabby?

Whew long day today.

So I am still looking for the right carbon filter and fan I am about to check into the link you gave me up there after this posting.

My main thing is I need it to be quiet ( so I can sleep in the same room and not disturb my downstairs neighbor) and quality, also I was not sure if I should get a fan speed controller for the 4inch which is the size fan I want since I don't want anything too big and expensive.

I was looking at this one on amazon it seemed to have good reviews but I have no clue how loud it might be.

I mean if the filter isn't the best I could upgrade it down the road I guess since I just started working again after a long period of unemployment. ( money is tight)

I don't recall if I posted this, don't think I did here but the poster is Bueno Time and its like 6 posts up from the bottom I think.(He is onto something there I just need to understand whether it comes with a cord or do I have to buy one sperately or what. Once I know that its just a matter of pairing up the cfm with the right filter I believe and of course duct tape...lots of duct tape.) Forgot to mention he might be sucking or pushing air though the filter or something like that so if that means I need more cfms to make it work I was hoping you guys could enlighten me on that little tidbit"

What he did is take a Panasonic whisper quiet fan and tape up the gaps to prevent dust and particles from harming the innards and it appears he just duct taped his carbon filter onto it.

I guess those particular fans are extremely quiet and for a small space are great.

Now he uses a model that you can find on amazon but its slightly out of my price range.

However their is a model that is 80cfm and also a 110cfm for under a hundred that I want to know whether it will work with a small can filter of say 4-6 inch size.

I assume you would have to wire on a cord for the Panasonic fan and then simply duct tape on your filter (also tape up the crevices against dust entering motor space.)

So what do you think could I get one of the two cfm types and make it work?

I asked the guy on ICMAG forum if he could elaborate but no reply just yet.

So I am gonna check your link bro and see if it matches what I need and if any of you can give me an idea of whether or not I can easily replicate what Bueno Time has done that would be an ideal option as I would need no fanspeed controller or duct silencer meaning less money spent on crap that may not make it quiet enough.

Those fans are for bath rooms.All though they will draw air out ther is no way to use a filter with them.
