Hi everyone,

Technically this isn't my first time grow journal, having limped along with my previous two buddah seeds, from the mixed pack. lol But all the help and advice you gave me was greatly appreciated.

This time In will actually know what one of my seeds is!! I have done 5 grows so far with mixed, but not utterly disappointing results. I've learnt so much (though I know I still know very little!) but I feel confident enough to use my free seed from Herbies now.

So, the Buddah seed is in a perlite coco mix , 9 litre Hempy bucket.
The Critical + will be in a 100% perlite 9 litre Hempy.

I'm using a Mars Hydro 300 w LED in a 2x2x5' tent.

I will be using advanced nutrients PH perfect grow micro bloom.

To germinate, I've used grow sponges from my aero garden, cut in half then sliced down the side. Soaked squeezed and the seeds placed inside. I am probably going to buy some root riot cubes, eventually.

The Buddah seed I have done as I did last time and place the sponge into the hempy.
However for the Critical + I am following Ronan's germination method and she is in the sponge in a plastic box, but not on the router, she's on top of the LED lamp, as I saw someone else did in his thread.

Buddah seed went in on 3/4/17. Last night I could see a little something poking through the tip of the sponge, and this morning (7th) she has her two seed leaves and two others coming.

I had to wait to get some more perlite, so the Critical + was prepped for germination today.

I am really excited to see how much quicker and successful Ronan's germination method is. Ill be able to ease open the sponge to see if the tap root is visible without disturbing it. Then Ill put the whole thing into the perlite Hempy. Thankfully this time I can be certain I've put it the right way up ha! I've very gently wound a pipe cleaner around the sponge just to make sure it stays shut as its above the light.

I am also mega excited to know for the first time, exactly what it is I am growing.

So please everyone, do pull up a chair. All advice is eternally welcome :)

Hey shortie

Looks like an interesting grow you have going there I've never done anything in 100% perlite. I'm curious how the plant is going to Anchor in perlite?

So even though you're using an nutrients and they should balance your pH okay, I recommend you check your pH of your background water and your nutrient mix. Sometimes if your background water is too high or low in PH even if it's within the range they state, you just won't get the self buffering.

Thanks Jingo. I've used the nutes before but I do have a probe to check the PH. I got lazy last grow and didnt bother, Ill try not to be this time lol
Re the perlite, I honestly have no idea how it will go. I've read quite a few journals where they've used pure perlite hempys successfully, so I just thought Id give it a try.

I guess I'm not sure what a hempy is exactly.

A hempy is a bucket with a hole about the size of a pencil 2" up from the bottom. The bottom is filled with perlite to act as a reservoir, then above the hole it can be perlite and vermiculite, perlite and coco or just one of those. There are probably other materials used to fill but that's all I know about so far.
On the top I put Hydroton clay balls, to stop algae forming.
The beauty of a hempy is you can not over water, and depending on the size of your bucket, once the roots have reached the reservoir, you dont need to water as frequently.
You water until about a 20% run off, which means the water/nutes are refreshed and oxygen is drawn through.
If you screw up and over feed, flushing is easy.
Coco can cause a salt build up and it also does something with the calcium, but if I'm absolutely honest I don't know what and I don't know if it has affected my previous grows. But the threads I have read said it doesn't happen with pure perlite.

I am still very much in the learning experimenting stage, but having fun along the way :baked:

Thanks for that explanation :slap: for some reason I always picture the bucket made out of hemp fiber or something like that it just kind of curious.

So our growing Styles would be similar I use straight coco or sometimes I may use some perlite in my Coco. I've been trying some air pots lately but I also use felt pots.

Thanks for the rep, but I cant take all the credit I read a really good thread by wg (I think) on here re Hempys

I've never tried the air pots or the fabric pots. Actually all Ive tried really is the Hempy. My first seed I threw into an aerogarden, put a 90w Ufo with it and got 16g. Each grow has produced a little more than the last, my last being 33g. So its progress lol
I cant wait til Im at the stage where I grow more than I smoke. I hate that anxious feeling as stocks get low Ha!
