Hey yall, mnbuds here looking for some pointers / advice on crossing, selfing and breeding with autos. I've done some research and looked through different categories on afn but would like to just make sure I have a decent grasp on the topic. If you have any knowledge on the subject please dont hesitate to chime in!

First question : when you reverse a fem autoflower plant for pollen and self it, will there be any variation in the phenos of the seeds produced, or will all the s1's be the same pheno as the original plant that was used? Also if you take those same s1 seeds from The first cross and self them again to make s2's, will there be any change in pheno, characteristic's or stability of the cross?

Second question: If I have 2 plants of the same strain growing , let's say CDLC from mephisto. If I reverse cdlc [HASHTAG]#1[/HASHTAG] and collect the pollen. Then pollinate sister plant cdlc [HASHTAG]#2[/HASHTAG], would the seeds produced be considered s1's? Also would this method have any affect on the variation of the phenos produced?

Third question: how exactly do you further develop a strain to make f2's, f3's and so on ? Do you just make an f1 cross , grow and select the plants carrying the traits you want and cross 2 or more f1's from the first batch to each other to make f2's?

Thank you in advance to anyone and everyone who can chip in with any advice !
Best regards yall

Hey papi! Im know for a fact that there are better and more qualified folks for this, but ill answer to my best understanding.
Remember that all breeding is basically the same! Genetics are genetics. So remember biology and that annoying square?
Lets think super basic for the example.
The plant youre growing is a parent. When you reverse it, the genetics dont change. So its still the same genetics. Lets call that plants genetic expression as Aa. Now when we breed male Aa pollen to the same plants female Aa, the genes will mix and we get children from the parent(s). The purpose of selfing versus pollenating a DIFFERENT plant is to stabilize the selected pheno.
In this example we get 4 main phenotypes from the 1 plant selfing. Aa and aA will show the same trait exression. So 3 phenotypical expressions.
AA, Aa, aA, aa

"1. when you reverse a fem autoflower plant for pollen and self it, will there be any variation in the phenos of the seeds produced, or will all the s1's be the same pheno as the original plant that was used? "

You can expect roughly 50% of the s1 seeds to show phenotypes super close to the original. The other half will show the other variable phenotypes and genetic matchings.

"1a. Also if you take those same s1 seeds from The first cross and self them again to make s2's, "

Technically yes, though i havent personally selfed for s2. To avoid the cleft lip of the plant world, id suggest pollenating a different plant that the reversed one whenever possible.

"1b. will there be any change in pheno, characteristic's or stability of the cross?"

Simply, yes. Each generation (if chosen carefully) SHOULD grow more stable. And should start getting closer to that "clone" stability.

"2. If I have 2 plants of the same strain growing , let's say CDLC from mephisto. "

No. They would be considered "r1" though in this case id simply take whatever the cdlc is (f4?) And add one to it. As in this example you just crossed 2 different cdlc f4 parents. Thatd be cdlc f5. Yes it would have an effect on phenos. Any time you mix genetic material you are either making the cross more or less stable. Depending on the mom and momdad selection.

3. "how exactly do you further develop a strain to make f2's, f3's and so on ? Do you just make an f1 cross , grow and select the plants carrying the traits you want and cross 2 or more f1's from the first batch to each other to make f2's? "

Yup![emoji106] wheres that "easy" button?

The best teacher is experience. I had ALL the same questions. Many were answered here. Some i just had to sit down with pen, paper, and a buncha squares. [emoji1]
Have fun!!

@HypatheticalGardener thank you a ton for taking the time to answer in such detail bro! That clears up all the questions I had, seriously appreciate the help. I'm more stoked and eager then ever to dive in too breeding now!!!!

Just remember to stay under 99 plants. [emoji106][emoji23] you're about to do the crack of growing. First cross and youre hooked! Hopelessly addicted looking for the next cross. [emoji23][emoji23]

I wish I could even get up at 10 plants in my tent at a time! Lol. I have a strong suspicion your right , I've been so intrigued and curious about the topic for so long I'm trying to hit the ground running with these projects. I know when I start, theres gonna be no stopping it [emoji23] the only down side is now it's time to play the waiting game,

Update on the tent ,

The rest of Cdlc coming down tonight. She recieved about 8 hours darkness before coming down. Not as ideal as 48 hours but I'm not risking more then that with the youngins in there. She was taking forever to amber up but theres enough for me.

Blue microverse had a medium-heavy defo to get more light to the lowers. She has a somewhat strange bud structure to her. nutes were bumped up to 3mls t bloom, 2 mls overdrive , 2 mls big bloom, 1 ml grow big , and 0.5mls mammoth p.

My BM x wa still isnt throwing any obvious hairs but definitely seems to be hitting her growth spurt. I've noticed her really climbing for the stars over the last few days when I've been turning the lights out for a few hours.

Sour livers been throwing haris for a few days now. I'm gonna attempt to train her to grow in a circular fashion around the edges of her pot to have some fun.

The goldilocks zone got a little too tall and flopped over today. Had to add some extra soil and build it up around her. Besides that her and gold glue are doing just fine

Greatly appreciate that bro, thank you!![emoji869][emoji120] godda love cdlc. She immediately stood out to me the first time I tried her
And mg just got her restocked online as well, hopefully the cc processing will be back up soon too

How are the cdlc side branches? Are they strong and hard like strawberry nuggets or a lil flimsy needing support?

Their a little flimsy and bendy , not sturdy like strawb nuggets at all. But so far my cdlc's havent needed any support. The only lady who's gotten to the point she could've used some support was my grape Walker kush.
And due to that, after I find another purple pheno of the cdlc I intend on crossing her to a Grape Walker kush. Ive Been dying to make that cross since the first time I grew the 2 out
