Breeders/ Male selection

Whether you are breeding autos or photoperiod strains your going to have to have males, and to help you use less trail and error in selecting your males ( pollen throwing) Here is a little tip that helps a bunch.
forst you need to decide what you want out of the breeding , if it’s flavor first like me you want the stinky male , the one where you rub the stem and he stinks like skunk or what we terp profile your chasing . Learn to associate smells with taste sheik you sample cannabis
It helps tremendously in breeding. If you want yield or a strong plant, select a stinky short male. The biggest mistake breeders make is just breeding with the stockiest male. A plant has a finite amount of energy and when it’s all going to yield it may lack in flavor. Or when it’s putting all its energy into flavor and sugar production it may yield very little.
however , if you can. If you can get your males large enough to dry some small leaves and pollen pods ( empty) smoke it. The best males will be smooth and not harsh. The stem should stink with feels when rubbed., and it should smoke smoothly with a pleasant often fruity or skunks flavor.
A vaporizer Will allow you to tell even more nuances within your males however if it doesn’t smoke smoothly it probably won’t taste greaWill allow you to tell even more nuances within your males however if it doesn’t smoke smoothly it probably won’t taste as great as the breedings with a male that is pleasant to smoke .
DON .

Thanks, Good to know info as I'm currently working on something of my own and choosing the"best" isnt always easy. Ive also been told by a different breeder to pay attention to the time the plants show sex as it can be a factor on how "quick" the plant is.

@Heirloom genetics i might be on the photo test team. What strain/strains r u gonna have us test. Always looking for info lol.

Yes the speed of the male is going to go into the progeny. However , if your choosing males only for this trait, you may miss the “ sugar day “ which can be of color even in colorless strains, stink and have a rough resin feel on the stalks tyat when rubbed has the smell of the term profile your seeking. Of course the aromas are diluted but if you do it enough you’ll get it. I rub the stems of every plant to get a smell/ taste idea of the plant. It’s a myriad of things to look for and yes speed of flower is essential.
