New to breeding myself so heres some books that helped me grow some ideas,
Marijuana Botany by Robert Connell Clarke,
Everyone should have this book, I keeping coming back to for pleasure and information.
For understanding the naturally grown landrace strains and the journey to condition them for new environments it is excellent. Good breakdown of basic breeding techniques and an excellent run through the life cycle of the plant.
Just get it!
The Cannabis Breeders Bible by Greg Green,
In two minds about this, makes breeding sound very dull and complicated. Good for information on the modern seed industry and new bizarre techniques that would make Monsanto blush.
Worth reading especially if you fancy the road to seed merchant, not so good for hairy organic types(like myself)
Breed Your own Vegetable Varieties by Carol Deppe,
With this book and with Marijuana Botany everything is possible.
Cannot rate this book highly enough!!!
Until 100 years ago(if that) everyone one on this planet was a breeder. From the Afghani hash farmer to the Thai ganja grower to your great grandparents, everyone bred plants and animals for there environment and there OWN tastes.
Especially for outdoor growers and small scale breeding this book is a dream. Plenty information on breeding, pollinating, selecting but it is her enthusiasm that blows me away.
Unlike Greg Greens book Carol Deppe's encouragement to have a go is perfect.
Plenty of stories and real life tales, just change Cabbage to Marijuana and your there.
Particularly good for impressing on the fact that Marijuana falls under the most extreme outbreeders and I think this gets forgotten- just grow a open pollinated land race to see what vigor really means!
In fact it is so good she will have you growing heirloom tomatoes next to your weed, food for the belly and the head.
I'll add more to this thread when I come across them. If anyone else has books that helped inspire them post away.
Internet is handy but you can't beat a good book and a spliff out in the sun.
