It's genetics. An F1 cross is an unstable mix of genetics where the next generation could turn out to be ANYTHING. The dominate and recessive traits have not been worked out and stabilized to the point of homogenization like with true breeding strains. Try as you might, the next generation on a cut only strain will never be like the parent. Blue dream was someone's stroke of luck in a random cross that hasn't been replicated since, meaning all blue dream plants from the cut are the exact same original plant. The legend came from one seed, in my mind making it one of the largest organisms on the planet based on biomass alone!
