Lighting Blackstar Chrome advice/tips please..

It's seems u can only find the chrome on eBay?? On the Blackstar site there calling there modular light the EFSF. No mention of the chrome. Maybe the have redesigned and are selling the surplus chromes on the bay.

Check out gothamhydroponics dot com. They have chromes also if you email them you can get a discount

Blackstar is in California and lighthouse is in New York so I think they are different companies. Gotham is in Ny also but a different town.

I thought it was a little strange when I put a low offer in on eBay and it was accepted straight away. My 6 spot chrome is due to arrive today so I'll still give it a go and post back with my results.

I think I got carried away with the hype after my success with the regular Blackstar 240's and it's a shame. Looking at the SFEF units which have spookily replaced the Chromes on the blackstar website, their claims are much less dramatic than they were with the Chrome units. Gotham/Blackstar/Lighthouse or whoever it is who writes up those descriptions makes such a song and dance about other companies false claims that it's easy to get carried away with believing that these units are the best available. It would appear that's not the case but we'll see.

Will keep you all updated with how I get on

I have used a chrome since they were released before they were on the site so you had to call to find out about them. I was anticipating them because i had a 240 and was thinking these would be at least equivalent but more like the HydroGrowLED, since that was what i was gonna get. Funny things were that when i got my light (360w 8-Spot) I have yet to see another person use one or even one for sale.... I dont know if i got like one of the very few made.... My light only has a little blackstar sticker on the back and came with a dent in the corner. I dont have much room since im using a Secret Jardin 2x4x5. So i dont mess with height to much i just get the light as far away as i can till the plants start getting swollen. Last grow i had the largest yield with the light so i do know it works. About 9oz on 3 of the plants. Usually pull 1-2 zips a plant pre chrome. Now i do noticed some effects from the chrome since its been a couple grows. I dont think the chrome is good for seedlings and young plants. They seem to grow slower and when i get them under my old 240 the vigor just increases and they grow better. I have had a little bleaching under the light when i was less than 5" away (plant grew to tall and said f*ck it) just was a little piece here and there. I have had a plants that were airy which i have yet to see under the 240. They still yielded since they plant structure was larger just got more airy nugs. I was thinking of selling the chrome and go for the solarstorm but it just doesnt make much since since i have only had the light for less than 6 months. I have been looking for tips because i am not conviced the lights are junk.... i just think they are a more advanced light and you need to pay more attention to light height. I was thinking of maybe cutting back the light schedule to see if that helps. My seedlings seem to grow slow under it and then they look fantastic when they are weeks old (fan leaves nice and perky). Then later on they seem to shy away from the light and droopy (still growing). First thoughts were pH since i show some defs. like little spots. I think it might be the light since i have been growing same strain. Not like a bad light i just think it demands the plant to use certain nutrients more and quicker. I was thinking of trying AN Revive since Gotham recommended it for the lights.(10% increase in yield)

Thanks for that info kakito. It's very helpful to know that you're you're getting good results in terms of yield.

I got my chrome today and almost killed myself :(. I was like a kid at Christmas and unscrewed the daisy chain cap and plugged it in, leaving the main port e posed next to the power button. I stupidly plugged it in when it was dark and promptly proceeded to insert my finger into the live port. The shock was nasty..

On a brighter note, I've got a new toy!! :D

I've installed my Chrome today. I have it roughly 18" of the canopy on my plants which are 56 days old. I'm really interested to see how they react after being under 400w hps thus far. I do have the hps at hand if things don't go too well, either way I'll let you know how I get on.

Two days in using the 6 spot Chrome and all is good. Reading back through the Ebay description of the chrome series, I wanted to highlight a section that I find interesting.

"The coverage area of the Chrome is smaller than that of a Blackstar of similar wattage specification. Vegetative grows, beginner grows and those who need maximum coverage should continue to use the original Blackstar LED's. More advanced individuals or those with hearty plant varieties can choose the Chrome series to maximize output and production. The Blackstar Chrome is also the perfect LED light for those who wish to use a hybrid flower (part LED, part HPS). Because the lights do not lose intensity, the Chrome can be placed along side the HID lighting and “backed off” the canopy with minimal reduction in PAR intensity."

The four plants I have under the Chrome are 8 weeks old so I'm not expecting any major issues. I just can't wait to see if those buds go psycho!. I won't be veging any plants under her, I'll just slide them over from under my hps and get a cycle going so that my adults will finish under the Chrome for the last few weeks.

Just wanted to update peeps on how the 6 spot chrome is working. This RQ NL ended up weighing 176g's dry in a 10 litre airpot. She went to 12 weeks.

I keep my light permanently 1500mm (1.5m) off the floor and let the plants grow too it. Node spacing seems perfect that way and I haven't noticed any bleaching or ill looking plants.

So far so good! and yes, that's an autoflower..

I have basically same setup. I have a 4x4x6' tent with a 400hps and an 270w chrome... I have mixed feelings about mine... It has DEFINITELY bleached its share fair of plants..
I have raided it significantly above the canopy..., seems like the indica Dom strains THRIVE under it, the mixed or sat strains burn/bleach up...
Makes sense about the seedlings, have always put them under the cfl's or the hid. Seems with the chrome 3to4 feet away the seedlings just do ok, not as great as under the hid.
My bs 240w in my 3x1.75x5' tent does excellent entire growth cycle.... My chrome is 5months old and I don't think I can do anything other than work with what I have....it serves its purpose... Though I am soon going to order another 240w bs for my 2.6x2.6x5' tent that is going to be used for breeding.... Wishing you the best of luck with your light... On the positive side I run my chrome 20hrs a day and have had 0 mechanical issues with it.. (Knock on wood)
Peace
