Biochar in pots and pH

FWIW- Tad Hussey has been helping me with building a soil mix (all the same ingredients as his prebagged soil) and he advised me to add 1-2 cups of inoculated biochar to the recipe that starts with 7.5 gallons of base material. After all the ammendments I ended up with about 10gallons of soil. I know there’s a recommendation of 8% on the site but that’s a max amount. I don’t know why he recommended only that amount but I did read somewhere that the BEST way to add biochar to soil is slowly. So, I’m keeping records and will be including additional biochar as part of my reamendment process after each cycle; until I hit that 8%

I used Lacto Bacillus, mycorrhizae, Recharge and MicroBlast as my inoculant. My first soil batches are still curing but almost ready to try out.

I think I read somewhere he recommends 5-8%, I can see the worth of upping it slowly, I'm probably going to go all in with this run, to hell with it I'm in the plant casino, it's all going on black

Nice! How long has it been curing for?

Since the 2nd Jan, I'm planning on mixing into my soil mixture which will have a couple of weeks or so before it sees any plants for a Biotabs grow.

Final update - measured pH before mixing with soil and it had risen to 7.5, so that went from 9.5 down to 6.4 then back up to 7.5, all in the space of about 3 weeks. All mixed into soil and in pots now awaiting plants in a couple of weeks :woohoo1:
