Dutch Passion Billy Wu's Star Ryder DWC hydroponics grow

Day 9 update

Righty, little update for today :) things are going fine, nothing particularly amazing to report. Looks like it usually does around day 9 :p

New res today, with 15mL Sensi A+B and 6mL CalMag. Rest is just plain water :) pH is at 5.5.

Sorry for the shitty pictures again, as I mentioned in other journals HPS lights put out radiation that interferes with my camera.

Day 16 update

New res today :) Well, technically speaking it wasn't exactly 'new'. I measured the EC of my current res and saw it was about 0.45. Topped up my res with an extra 20mL of Sensi Grow A+B, plus an extra 2mL of supplemental CalMag.

EC is now at 0.8, pH is at 5.6.

The plant is growing well :) Seems a little bit heat stressed as there's evidence of inward leaf curling, but it's getting into the summer months now and my grow space gets quite hot when the fans go off for 15 minutes of supplementary CO2 each hour. I've unzipped the tent further to try and lower the temperatures, but it's times like these I really wish I had a good LED panel (like DP's new Holo series) so that temperatures would be more manageable. HPS is a great light source, but it gets real hot.

On the upside, there are no deficiency spots at all and the roots are a fantastic white colour :)

She's looking good billy! Ive been waiting for someone to do an AN lineup dwc to watch before i jump into DWC. Looks like you have everything on track! Are using the PH perfect line? Good luck my friend doesnt look lke you'll need it haha

Day 24 update

Things are starting to get interesting now! I've seen a bit of a growth spurt this last week, she's getting pretty big now. I've also found pistils, so she is officially a she :) This plant is looking fantastic I reckon, it's about as big as my first 'famous' (for lack of a better word) Think Different grow for day 24. Could be on for another 150-200g harvest at the end of this :) My CO2 bottle is running low right now so I need to top up.

Temperatures are still running fairly high, but I'm controlling them a bit better now. There's been little to no leaf curling since I left the tent door halfway open, a lot of the heat vents quicker. Res temps however are good, averaging at about 70°F.

I haven't made a 'fresh' reservoir since I started, I've just been topping up the existing one with fresh water and adding nutrients to it (without the plant being in it of course, I usually let it bubble a bit before sticking the plants roots back in). There's been no slime or anything and I haven't needed to use my microbial inoculate like I did on my last grow. When it starts getting a bit mucky in there or the roots start changing colour, I'll clean the bucket out and make a clean fresh res :)

EC was at 1.1 this week, down to 0.75 at the time of writing this update; she seems to be drinking an awful lot of water. I keep the pH at 5.5 - 5.6, usually stabilizing my pH to 5.5 and letting it go up to 5.6 before I start moderating it. Gives a bit of a better nutrient uptake range I think :)

She'll start flowering soon I think, so the next res will contain small amounts of flowering nutrients.

Thanks bud :) Yeah I use the pH perfect line :) The nutrients are quite good I think. I haven't actually got anything to compare it to though so I can't say for sure whether or not the AN pH perfect line is the best DWC feed lineup.

Shes going to be a beast. Hope you beat your record mate!
:pass:

Thanks Sanguine :) I think she's going to be a beast as well, she's growing really bloody quickly right now. I'll do my best to beat my record but I'm not sure how to go about doing it :) Any tips?

Looks like your doing everything right. Nice healthy roots, plenty of light, air flow and the right range of nutrients. Im not the person to be giving advice, i'll be asking you if i ever get round to trying dwc!
Have you checked out any of grey bears 500g+ grows?
He is the dude you want advice from although i think youre doing awesome already mate

Day 76 update

Harvest day
Well, I've successfully pulled my final plant through to it's end :) I'll be honest and admit that I had a bit of a hiccup midway through the grow and things went a bit downhill during the early flowering stages. I didn't take any pictures because I thought the plant looked kind of shit, times have been tough recently so I kind of neglected my plant during this grow. I should've pH'd a LOT more as I hardly did at all. I didn't do any fresh reservoir drains and swaps, I just topped up with pre-mixed new reservoirs and plain water when it got a bit low.

Anyway having said that, this may possibly be my best ever grow. The bud itself was VERY leafy, I mean a lot more than usual due to the hiccup midway through the grow. It took me about 6-8 hours today to cut it down and trim it all, I've literally been sat here most of the day doing trimming :) it was worth it though, as you can see by the pictures below.

So, let's get to the actual weighing and see what I might have. As usual I'm using these shitty analog scales because they're all I've got to do weighing with.

Weight of blue tray: 195g
Weight of blue tray + big buds and stems = 995g

Weight of big buds + stems - weight of blue tray = 800g
Weight of smaller buds = 110g
Total weight of big buds + stems + smaller buds = 910g wet

Using my usual method of guesstimating higher and lower ranges, here's what I reckon I could get.

Lowest yield (15% of wet weight) = 136.5g
Average yield (20% weight) = 182g

Guesstimated dry weight = 136.5g - 182g

With a bit of luck, this plant could be my best one ever :) A great way to end my growing time.

Below are the pictures!

You can see that the plant itself looked kind of crappy, I didn't take any pictures of it before I cut it because a lot of the stems were breaking and bending under their own weight; the plant was going all over the place. However, the bud is brilliant :)
