Dutch Passion Billy Wu's second grow - Think Different (w/CO2 enrichment)

They still are throwing lots of white pistils, almost look like she could have gone longer, but those are some fantastic looking colas Billy!!

Yeah I was thinking that, gonna see how it goes in a few days and determine if it needs longer or not :)

Hi Billywu. Great grows—I've been following these as well as Seymour's for a while.
I have a few questions actually for both of you. What has been your RH on both of these and do you guys use a humidifier?

Hey Dr. Dank. Mine is usually about 30-40%, I don't use a humidifier :)

Thanks man. I'm beginning to think that higher humidities are bad except for in early seedling stages. My logic is that a plant acts like a wick, but if its getting all its moisture through the air then it's not going to be pulling nutrients through the soil or reservoirs thereby stunting growth due to nutrient depletion. The only time it might be good is in extremely arid climates and high temperatures to prevent burning.

Just about every post I read regarding RH says to keep it 40-50%. Cervantes even says 60%. I don't think that's optimal.

If Seymour comes on, I wonder what he's at RH-wise. You both seem to be in the same temperature ranges.

Day 72

IT'S CHOP TIME! She's ready to come down now :) Leaves are yellow, more resinous pistils than white ones and she hasn't grown any further. In an hour or two I'll be back with the wet weight :)

Looking forward to hearin it!! Congrat on the harvest Billy and good luck on your next grow!!

Harvest update

Righty, finally finished the trimming and harvesting :) I got quite a fair harvest, not amazing but not terrible either. The wet weight is 185g, which should be about 55-75g when dried.
Sadly, this grow didn't turn out nowhere near as well as my first one. Here's a scientific report of my experience.

Advantages of this grow
  • Great growing practice for my upcoming unreleased Dutch Passion 'AutoX' test grow
  • I learnt a lot from this grow, perhaps more than my first one!
  • Identified problematic areas

Disadvantages of this grow
  • Not as big a harvest as I had hoped for, considering the size of the plant
  • Problematic soil, most likely a bad batch
  • Excessive CO2 used during first part of enrichment, had to get a timer to prevent carbon dioxide poisoning
  • LED lights arrived a little too late in the grow to do any good

Identified problems
  • I was being FAR too timid with my nutrients, I underfed my plant far too much until the end. I now know how much to feed each time and I'll only be using EC to judge the overall strength of my nutrient solutions as opposed to using it to actually make the feed up part by part.
  • Again, too much CO2 used until I got a timer. I used up quite a lot of it, but now I've figured out a better method to CO2 enrichment.
  • I didn't check my soil pH before I started my grow (stupidly). I thought that seeing as it was pH 6.5 from the exact same bag I used the first time, I thought the pH would be the same this time. Unfortunately, it wasn't and it was about 2-3 weeks in before I actually flushed it to solve the pH problems.
  • I had my lights too far away to create adequate node spacing. I know the node spacing is supposed to be 1 inch apart, mine was about 2.5 inches apart. I now know that I need to keep my lights closer.
  • I used 24/0 lighting during the seedling stage as opposed to the vegetative stage as I read somewhere it was best done as early as possible in the grow. I'm not sure if it was beneficial or detrimental, but I believe that I should wait until about week 2+ before I use 24/0.

Overall, I don't think the CO2 did much good this time around because of all the problems I had. I believe that in my next grow, it will do much better!
Note: I accidentally deleted my picture of all the trimmed buds on the tray. I trimmed all the leaves off the "proper" way this time as opposed to my experimental method in my last grow. You can see the hanging buds have no leaves on them, so I did give it a proper trim! :toke:

Congrats on your harvest man! Looks like you got some good smoke and learned a bunch in the process=best of both worlds!
