Hello folks. I get a PM from time to time from people asking me about my Volcano vaporizer. I decided that I'd write up a review, perhaps it may help those of you who are a bit undecided as whether to buy one or not
What does a vaporizer do?
In the case of smoking cannabis, a weed vaporizer is a device that essentially vaporizes the active ingredients in cannabis, such as THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD (cannabidiol) and CBN (cannabiniol). Each of these psychoactive ingredients, like all other compounds, obeys the laws of chemistry and physics.
A vaporizer is a device which when activated will heat the herb up to a very high temperature. When it reaches this temperature, you can activate the vaporizer to blow all that hot air onto your herb. This will boil off all the nice ingredients in weed that we like without the risk of combustion (catching fire). When your weed is not burnt, carcinogens (cancer causing agents) and mutagens (mutation causing agents) that are typically found in smoke and fumes are absent.
Therefore, you get a nice big hit of nothing but the stuff you want! Vaporizers are the safest method of smoking cannabis, period. They also provide a different sensation when you're high. I also find that when I hit the bong, pipe, blunt or anything else then it burns on the inhale. With the vaporizer, it's the opposite. I can inhale as much as I like, but it's the exhale that makes you cough
The Volcano Vaporizer
The Volcano Vaporizer is probably one of the most prestigious vaporizers around. There are two versions: classic and digital, both made by the German company Storz & Bickel.
The differences between the classic and digital are small. The classic features a dial that allows you to adjust your heat manually, but without precise control. The digital on the other hand is more expensive but provides precise control over temperature.
The higher the temperature you set, the more will be boiled off in 1 go, so you'll essentially be getting a bigger, thicker bag of vapor on high heat, but less bags per chamber fill. If you have a lower heat, you will get less in the bag, but more uses per chamber fill.
Note: When I say 'chamber fill' and 'bag', I'm referring to the small chamber you put your herb in to vaporize it and the bag is essentially a balloon that fills up with vapor.
This is the Volcano classic, the one I have. You get everything seen here, such as replacements, bags and a free grinder! The actual contents may vary as you may decide you want the solid valve over the easy valve (I'll explain the differences shortly).
This is the Volcano digital. It contains the same contents as the classic (again dependent on what valve you choose) but has a precision heat setting.
Solid valve vs. Easy valve
The valves are essentially the neck that goes on top of the filling chamber to fill the bag with vapor and there are two different ones.
The easy valve is the one I use. It comes with 5 bags and orange neckpieces and is VERY easy to use. Simply put it on the filling chamber and fill it up! It also has a mouth piece that you press and inhale on. However, the actual bags themselves are not interchangeable; the 5 you get is the 5 you got. Replacements won't fit the easy valve unless you buy a whole new valve set.
The solid valve is different. It allows for interchangeable bags, but is not as easy to use. It requires you to remove a piece each time you want to hit it and also operates differently (I'm not exactly sure how it works as I haven't had the chance to use it).
Advantages of the Volcano Classic & digital
Disadvantages of the Volcano Classic & digital
Overall, it gets my recommendation. I really like mine and people are always amazed whenever I bring it around. It's quite a prestigious piece, people usually say to me "How on Earth did you afford that?!", but it is definitely worth it.
Hope this review helps some of you! Happy smoking

Advantages of the Volcano Classic & digital
- Healthiest way of smoking.
- Very conservative with your herb, one fill on the chamber might get you high 2-3 times!
- EXCELLENT build quality, unfaultable.
- A whole new way of smoking! It's unlike anything you've tried before.
Disadvantages of the Volcano Classic & digital
- Expensive, they cost roughly £350 GBP (approximately €425).
- Cumbersome, not as easy to transport as a bong or pipe and it requires mains electricity.
- Can sometimes take up to 10 minutes to proper heat up.
Overall, it gets my recommendation. I really like mine and people are always amazed whenever I bring it around. It's quite a prestigious piece, people usually say to me "How on Earth did you afford that?!", but it is definitely worth it.
