They arent fungus gnats from what i have read and seen, just the ordinary type that dont live in my pro-mix. I didnt have a problem until i started using blackstrap molassas in the feed schedual. Plants love it and apparently so do other things. Sticky traps? anything else i can do?

What are the ordinary type, can you give us a picture or name?
Can you describe them?

Put some slices of raw potato on the soil, if you have gnats you should see some larvae on the slices after a couple of hours....(flip slices to inspect).
Sticky traps cant hurt, even if you dont have pest problems now.....prevention is always better than the cure :toke:

my rundown on fungus gnats.. ymmv..

they repopulate via the sewers here, as is likely in any urban or suburban area.

i tried keeping the top of my medium dry and using BTI (mosquito dunks) for watering, which reduces them, but not to an extent where they won't still chew down seedlings and stunt root growth.

the winner for me was agsil 16h from customhydronutrients.. this lacerates the larvae in the soil. not a fungus gnat to be seen most days. this needs a ph down to balance it, and between the two, likely since this is new for me, my plants are still not optimal, but there are no fucking bugs.

i grow seedlings in a netted box with true cypress cinnamon sprinkled on the bottom.. this does repel them. don't get it in the soil, it retards roots.

i had little luck with vinegar traps. i am also starting to use an inch of perlite on top of my media (others recommend sand) to reduce the amount of potassium silicate i use.

I crumble dunks into my soil mix and use them in my teas. No gnats.

neem is great for all kinds of things... but late stages it can really adversely affect the bud flavor and smoke... neem smells horrible... i cant imagine what it smokes like... but not good I'm sure...

lady bugs control and continue to control populations well... make sure lady bugs get a "dew" of mist a few times a day so they have penty to drink... or leave a small dish of water for them...

:toke:

there are other predatory insects on that site as well.. but lady bugs are easiest... and make a great friendly addition to the garden... :toke:
