Old Reviews Best silenced fan?

In the past I have been kept awake by fan noise from my grow cab in my bedroom. so much so I had to use ear plugs to sleep at night.
I ended up building a box and filling it with hollow fiber around my fan (the suff you get in pillow and duvets). It made a great differnece.
I also added a fan speed controller as the fan was more powerful than I needed, so buying a larger fan and running it at half speed is somethig to think about.
Silencers will also help by reducing the wooshing sound produce by air exiting your fan.
Now I have switched to all LED lighting my fan speed is even lower and everything is now very stealthy.

good advice here m8; the best thing I ever did for sound suppression was building a speed controller, just be careful some fans are not compatible with the cheaper ones that use a dimmer switch (they create a high pitch whine noise). I built mine using a variac (variable transformer) I bought off ebay for the same price as a cheaper manufactured dimmer type.

also, using LED's will mean much less heat to dump hence lower fan speed required - just do some research as the fans on some LED's can give off noise too.

I'll give you the best advice yet :)

Also, for your girl's listening pleasure, a white noise sleep aid along these lines next to your bed:

I use both products in my bedroom for my cab

cheers for that nuskool, been looking at those fans for a while now, think i'll get saving! the white noise sleep aid is an interesting suggestion too :peace:

If ducting noise is a problem then go for accoustic ducting.
If filter noise is too loud then get a fan speed controller or larger filter. If you draw more air through a filter that it is designed for , the efficiency of the filter is reduced and smells instead of being absorbed by the carbon are drawn through and vented out through the ducting.
If noise is to loud when exiting ducting use a silencer.
Bends in the ducting can also make more noise.
As i mentioned earlier a small fan run at top wack will be noisier that a larger fan run at half speed.

to quiet my fan I placed it in a tote and packed pink attic insulation around it....the fan pulls hot air from the tent then filters it through the carbon filter before it goes out to the air....this works well for smell and stealth....the fan runs quieter and is able to run at a higher speed without anyone hearing it.
