New Grower Best of the Best: Dutch Breeders

@hal8999
Of course these people run their companies, I'm telling you these companies mostly work in a different way most of us believe.
I don't believe Arjan or Ben or most of the commercial seedbank magnates are actually proper breeders, well of course there are exceptions like Soma and some others.
Also I don't consider pollen chuckers to be equal to breeders in any case, working with cuts is not breeding, true breeding requires working with lots of plants for selection and knowing everything about every step in the breeding process of every strain.
When I talk with breeders I'm amazed of the depth of their knowledge and dedication to the plants they work with.
And I don't see any of that in most seedbanks listed here, not revealing anything except commercial talk to the seed buyers.

In the end, believe anything you wish, it's your money anyway.

Cheers

HOnestly I never saw it from this perspective, and I didn't even realize that this was the way this business runs. So there has to be some real breeders in the list no? In hindsight I suppose I should have named the title "Best Dutch Breeders/Strains/Companies"
For me honestly I don't care where or who breeds the seed, all I want is quality in my strains. Dutch passion has come through very well with strains personally, and my good buddy has had tremendous success using Bomb Seeds.

Balarama I do not understand why you say that Arjan and Ben are not true breeders. They developed the techniques of using landrace genetics to create stable hybrids. Those two have the deepest genetic stocks around. These guys are responsible for white widow, Jack Herrer, Nevilles Haze and so many classic strains. That is like saying P. Allen Smith is not a horticulturist.

I'm not saying what you're saying Hal.
Arjan for example is not working the lines himself, he has Franco and others to take care of crosses and keeping mothers alive.
There are MANY other people who traveled the world up and down from the 70s and collected many landraces and worked cultivars, from the tropics and other areas, risking their lives many times(Thailand, Africa, PNG, Himalayas...) to get some precious seeds.
The landrace hype we see today was created by Arjan and his media group precisely because he and other Dutch "breeders" know the lines they hold are watered down and not so good anymore, they count on fresh genes from other sources to boost their own seed production and sales. If you don't know, there are some seedmakers(RealSeedCompany, Cannabiogen, Ace, OriginalDelicatessen, TropicalSeeds, USC...) which offered landraces and landrace based lines for a decade or more ago...depends which one in particular.

For example the WW, Nevils Haze, JH and so on, these are products of many hands, there's not a single person who can take credit for them, often they do take credit because it boosts sells and makes good promotion for the seedbank.
We know for fact the seeds of the old dutch strains are not the same strains anymore, been that way since 99 at least when most original mother plants were raided by police in netherlands.
The WW and JH were recreated to be similar to the originals, JH has so many phenos that nobody knows which is the "original". There never was an original JH, it's an isolated population of SSH which was bred by many before Shantibaba. To take a piece of a strain and call it another strain is what these people do, and then sell the seeds for high bucks. JH's name is a market magnet.

I know most of you don't care about who bred the lines, as long as the seeds make nice nugs.
But I and many others do care a lot, mostly because of respect towards the people who made huge efforts of heart to put together a nice strain to their liking.

Take Blueberry and its history. DJ's creation became a "whore strain" for many seedbanks and the original breeder doesn't get a cent out of his creation beimg sold by other sellers. Maybe some fame yes, but that doesn't help when you need to eat.
Also WW, there are so many stories and arguments between Arjan and Shantibaba that it becomes embarassing knowing the strain was there before they named it that way.

So the bottom line is...don't just believe anything you read on advertising spaces. If you're interested, do some thorough research and put the puzzle together, there's a lot of proper info floating on the net.

Cheers

Dutchbreed have been around for years and also have been producing Auto's for over seven years to my reckoning . One of their main problems was not having enough exposure, even though they had a website for years, it took rather a lot of random searching to find accidentally stumble on their website -not really the best business model to use.
They now no longer have a dedicated website and instead have opted for selling their strain via seed distributors such as "Weedworldwide.com".
Alternatively copy the name of the strain you like add Dutchbreed after the strain name and hit enter and google it. I think that the "Seed Boutique" also sells Dutchgrown seeds.

I hear you now Balarama. At first I was thinking, they do all the back breeding he mentioned. Yeah genetics are hard to keep stable. Do you know who started Dinafem? They get my vote for best of the best.

I hear you now Balarama. At first I was thinking, they do all the back breeding he mentioned. Yeah genetics are hard to keep stable. Do you know who started Dinafem? They get my vote for best of the best.

Here'a bit of Dinafem info and history but I can't supply a breeders name who started it, may be they just want to be in the back ground working on new strains, I know that's how I'd like it.

Dinafem Seeds celebrates 10 years

In 2004, the seeds used by most growers in the world were regular seeds, that is male and female, the males being pulled up when they were identified, which meant losing half of the cultivated plants. Feminized seeds were the solution to this problem, as they allowed growers not to lose half of the plants every time. Knowing they would become really popular in the future, we decided to create a bank that sold feminized cannabis seeds only and we gave it a name that made it clear it specialised in feminized seeds.

Dinafem Seeds' History

The story of how Dinafem Seeds was created is easily told. After accumulating years of experience cultivating cannabis in all its varieties and having enjoying the most interesting strains of the moment as growers, it got to the point where the team behind Dinafem had to experiment and test. Tests were oriented towards the creation of a company and tackling legal issues associated with it... there was still much to be prepared before the first Dinafem seeds were created.

timeline.jpg

Around autumn 2002
Dinafem's team took the first steps, with a full year of technical research and the implementation of the operational aspect; cuyltivation areas, documentation and an in-depth study of the botanical aspects of cannabis. Creating feminised seeds, working with selected mother and male plants... these were our first steps, before any results were obtained.

Late 2003
After working for a year, we were ready to prepare and carry out the first experiment to produce feminised seeds. So by late December 2003, the first Power Kush seeds were harvested. It was the first strain we created and, by the end of that year, these Dinafem feminised seeds were ready to be marketed.

January 1st 2005
Another year had gone by, a whole year since we harvested our first commercial seeds. Everything was ready to officially put them on sale. On January 1st 2005, Dinafem Seeds was officially created as a company dedicated to achieving excellence, in all aspects of its products and services. At that time, we were the first professional company dedicated to feminised seeds in Spain, proving that the quality of feminised seeds could be as good as or even better than the "Dutch legends".

During the first years, we started shaping the catalogue of the brand with the first names of our strains that, in those days, were almost unknown: Moby Dick, Critical+, Blue Widow... Since then, we have spent 6 years developing, selecting and improving a wide range of 100% stabilised, standardised and feminised seeds, obtained from some of the best top-quality cannabis strains in the world.

2009-2010
At the end of the first decade of the 21st century, Dinafem was internationally consolidated as a seed bank of recognised quality. Well-known strains such as Cheese, Industrial Plant (based on the famous Northern Lights) and new autoflowering strains were incorporated by the end of 2009.

In 2010, Dinafem featured a record number of varieties: 10 new strains, of which 3 were autoflowering lines. That year, we received widespread recognition when one of our first strains and perhaps the best known of our brand, Moby Dick, was nominated by Soft Secrets readers, as "Girl of the Year 2010". It was five years since Dinafem Seeds was officially founded, and we can proudly say that, thanks to our Moby Dick variety, the award was given to a non-Dutch strain for the first time in history.

2011-2014
Dinafem Seeds is present in all European countries where seeds are sold. Its presence is also increasingly important in the rest of the world and it is regarded as a one of the most prestigious and cutting-edge seed banks with top-notch autoflowering and feminised seeds that are widely appreciated. Throughout this period, it works with new high-quality Californian genetics among which OG Kush, Bubba Kush, Dinachem or Purple Afghan Kush are worth a special mention.

In 2015, Dinafem Seeds celebrates its 10th anniversary, and decides to focus its efforts on the development of CBD-rich strains that are increasingly demanded due to their interesting therapeutic properties.

All these years of research and development have resulted in a catalogue packed with fascinating feminised, autoflowering and medicinal seeds that are all 100% feminized, powerful, productive and stable.

Dinafem was the first bank of feminized seeds to come out in Spain, where quite a dynamic cannabis industry had been born in the late 90’s, an industry that together with that of Holland, has become one of the most developed and widespread of Europe. Moreover, Spain is the country that has driven many of the changes that have taken place in the cultivation and the cannabis world, such as the Cannabis Social Clubs and the autoflowering cannabis seeds, two phenomena that are now being exported to other countries.

As growers for more than 25 years, Dinafem’s development has always been based on the pursuit of quality products, since our aim is to produce seeds that, above all, satisfy us as growers and that result in crops we really enjoy tasting.

It is thanks to this constant pursuit that we have managed to lay the foundations of our business, a collection that includes top-quality genetics from all over the globe.

During the first years, we only worked with elite European genetics −the champion strains in their respective countries, such as Critical+ in Spain and France, Original Amnesia in Holland and Cheesein the UK− and we marketed them in feminized form.

In 2008 we started to focus on developing increasingly better, more potent and tastier autoflowerings, to the point where we have now created a separate catalogue called Autodinafem that specialises in autoflowering strains. This new catalogue is a real source of pride for us, since the modern autoflowerings we have been improving for seven years are now so good that their demand has been steadily increasing and they already represents almost half of our sales.

In the last years we have also been involved in the development of seeds of the best American strains, such as OG Kush, Bubba Kush and Dinachem, which was created from the legendary Chemdog. These genetics are so special and unique that they have resulted in a qualitative leap in our catalogue and allow users all over the world to experience first-hand the most demanded genetics in the USA.

Now we are also working with strains rich in CBD, a kind of seed that is becoming more and more appreciated because of the medicinal properties and that will prove to be an indispensable point of reference for users all over the world.

These four product lines –European, American, Autoflowering and Medicinal– have turned ourcatalogue in one of the most comprehensive seed collection of the world, with options to suit all tastes and needs.

Our immediate goal is to keep innovating and improving so that we can give a professional answer to the challenges of the 21st century, which are none other than the acceptance and the legalization of the cannabis reality in countries and states all over the world. In the next ten years we will work closer with Medical Associations, Cannabis Social Clubs, Foundations, Laboratories, Dispensaries and even with sovereign countries that are currently stablishing their own cannabis production programme.

Also, to celebrate Dinafem’s 10th anniversary, we have updated our corporate image and we have inaugurated our own laboratory fitted with sophisticated technology with which to analyse the cannabinoid and terpene content of each strain and thus improve the quality of the seeds of our catalogue.

Legalization is happening already and we are working and innovating to play a central role in the global change this new scenario will bring about.

From Dinafem we would like to invite you to discover our work hoping that you will enjoy it as much as we do.

We wish you a happy 2015!

Dinafem Team

As they say, it's a seed industry.
Also for a seedbank to offer ONLY feminised seeds, brings many questions on breeding techniques. Usually fems are made from cuts or selected plants of some population, which brings narrowing down of genepools of these plants. The same thing happening to every industrial seedmaking approach, dutch, spanish or american.
For the small scale consumer(as we mostly are) it may be a good product thats why so many rave about them.
Good seeds to be sold, not good for further breeding. Meaning growers have to buy fresh seeds instead of making their own.

If it's good enough for the buyer, it's good enough for the industry.

Not good for genetic variation and preservation of traits other than "short flowering, good yield".
