There are two types of Badges: Administrator awarded Badges and Self awarded Badges.
Administrator/Moderator awarded badges are requested by you the member for accomplishing what the badge is awarded for and verified by the awarding Administrator or Moderator.
Self Awarded Badges are your show of support for a vendor or other subject of interest to you. Look at the available badges here:

If the badge can be self awarded it will present you with the word to use:
Go to your Profile and choose "Account Details" on the right is a field titled "Badge Request" simply type the add badge word in there. Multiple badges can be selected simply by adding more "words" separated by a space. "Save" the change to your profile.
It may take up to 3 hours for the badge to post to your account after the request.
