Day 47 - Thrips

DSCI0107.jpgDSCI0108.jpgDSCI0109.jpgDSCI0110.jpg

Everything is going as normal. I flushed and changed the tank a few days ago, the plants look healthy but they do have thrips. I spray every day, alternate between Aptus Dislike and a garden centre brand, I am going to buy the anti-thrips spray from Bayer tho it worked well last time.

I hate spraying my plants but if someone can tell me a better way to get rid of these bad boys then I'm happy to give it a go. I've tried natural predators and home-made brews with tobacco and hops and none of these was very effective.

Other than this everything is as expected. Temperature is 19.1 celsius and humidity is very low, 40-45%.

No dramas man it looks like everything is under control. I haven't seen any sign of them for a couple days since spraying with the Bayer spray. I'm sure they're still there but they're not going to screw me this time.

Initially I sprayed with the Aptus Dislike and then tried Pokon Bio (pictured). I checked the plants after a couple of hours after each spray. The thrips were still on the leaves and crawling around even after receiving a very heavy direct dose. By comparison, the Bayer product has wiped them out. Note this little experiment was conducted on my OG Kush seedlings, I never observed many thrips on the Auto White Widow, but I assume that what goes for one is the same for the other.

I have tested the Aptus before on some thrips that were crawling around on my table, and I noticed a direct dose does not kill all of the thrips, 30-50% survive. I think it works well on larger winged pests but not very effective against thrips. I'm not sure what the Pokon does but it seems to be the least effective of the three.

Day 53 pics

I have now switched back to the LED for power-saving purposes. My OG Kush are ready for 12/12 so I gave them the HPS light, seemed a bit daft to have the AWW consuming 600W for 20 hours a day when they could be under LED.
Did a res change today, added 38ml of PK13/14. Lots of frost forming but the buds are not so big yet, hopefully they will fatten up over the next few weeks.

No sign of the wildlife.

They look like they might be done in the second week of January which will be week 12.

Day 70 - flushing

Happy new year to all!

I left the AWWs unattended for 5 days over christmas. I put them under the LED and left it on 24 hours a day. When I got back (day 63) I refilled the reservoir.

Today I checked and noticed that the plants have not taken up much solution and many of the leaves are now yellowing so I emptied the reservoir and filled with pH'd water containing only enzymes and booster. I am going to chop them next weekend. The plants are now under 600W HPS set to 12-12. This is because I now have flowering photosensitive OG Kush in the same room, and I need the LED for another grow. I don't think the buds are going to gain much more weight as they are already pretty fat, and the smell is amazing!.. I've grown photo WW from Dutch Passion before and this auto version is very similar in smell and appearance.

Some pics from day 63:

And from day 70:

I think I'll pull about 200g in total, an acceptable haul considering the limited space.

Day 75 - bud rot :(

Had to trim a couple of fat buds off last night because of bud rot, in total about 20g wet. The humidity has been around 55-60% which I thought would be fine but clearly not . I checked all the other buds this morning and they are ok, I also switched on the dehumidifier and set it to 40%.

Yes, I have a dehumidifier and I wasn't using it, genius I know. But that thing is 220W and costs about EUR 35 a month in electricity, which is surely less than the value of the two buds I lost. I learned my lesson.

Two days until harvest, the smell is incredible nobody is going to believe this weed came from an auto! Best autoflower strain I've grown yet! In November I made a decision only to grow photos this year because of the problems I had with my last auto grow. If this had been the grow from November I would almost definitely have stuck with autos. Shame I've committed my setup to photos and I can't go back, for now.

Nice grow man! unlucky with the bud rot though :/ what was the dry yield on these baddies? :Sharing One:

I've had my fair share of bud rot... I know the feeling all too well... Looking out for the dry yield :Sharing One:

Congrats on a nice harvest!! Seemed like a laid back grow and some great results!! REP sent your way!!
