Probably not the thread to start this discussion, but IMO starting autoflowers in anything other than their final container is a fools errand. Yes they take up less space, but they never get close to their full potential with even a single transplant. I've started hundreds of seeds and 62 autos over the past 6 months and every plant that was transferred is doing, or did, far worse than the non-transplant counterparts. Doesn't matter if I used rooter plugs, solo cups, larger plastic cups, if I wait till the tap root is visible, or not, every plant that was transferred has done relatively poorly. Yes, you can still get them to grow and flower, but you're ensuring a bad start and a significantly smaller yield, though if there's any positive they do finish 1-2 weeks faster with the stress.
Starting in their final pots is fine but I get faster growth with transplanting and there's alot of people that don't transplant with autos. But if your not a idiot and are carefull its easy to do. The plants root system is small early on and cant help the pot dry out and what happens is the top dries out while the middle and bottom of the pot stay wet and stagnit. In a cup or a smaller container is allows the roots to have dry and wet periods which promotes faster root growth. The problem and myths of transplanting are most people wait to long or to early and are rough with the plants and damage the roots during the process. I wait till I see a few roots out the bottom of the container wait till it's dried out a little. I cut away the container very carefully and transplant it and water in thoroughly in the new pot. No shock or anything. And the plants grow faster for me. But I only transplant once from solo cup to final pot. But many people disagree on the subject but like I said they do it wrong.

For the battle I'll be starting suckerpunch ,gorilla glue, kush doctor, and ultra lemon haze. I'm planning on going with the suckerpunch as I've said before but am planting the others just in case something happens.

I use solo cups with no bottoms and slots cut out in the sides. To do this you must use 2 cups, (the 2nd cup has drain holes and is used to contain the inner cup). Upon transplant, I remove the outer cup and plant the inner cup with no stress! :headbang:

It's certainly possible that my technique is to blame. I've attempted to be exceedingly careful, going so far as to create cones out of solo cups held loosely with tape, then as soon as I see the root come out the bottom, or even before, I transplant by holding the cone firmly together, removing the tape, placing the cone in the final pot, then removing the cone. Literally no pressure or even disturbed soil. The plants do well enough, and certainly flower faster, but don't grow to nearly the same dimensions or have the same yield potential. I'm just venting my frustrations with transplanting, as I'd like to use it effectively, but can't seem to make it work.

What might help is to water right aftet with some kelp extract or Voodoo Juice to help the roots along. Are you making sure it's somewhat dry before you transplant and watering right after you transplant?. And what's your perilite ratio to soil?

I think I’ve got Suckerpunch. It looks pretty good from the website blurb.. I haven’t seen anyone else grow it yet tho.

That's a cool idea lol I cut away the cup with a razor blade like a surgeon lol and my mix is 50 50 coco to perilite with seedlings and I use a layer of clay peoples at the bottom for added adoration and drainage.

Just something I learned here @Tyler_Durden88 Btw, I use coco/perlite too, but no pebbles. Although I have been known to coat the bottom with a layer of perlite! :headbang:

I never left the plants in the solo cups for more than a week, kept the soil slightly moist at all times, using promix HP before transferring to 5 gal air pots in the same medium, with plenty of voodoo juice, and a 500ml watering after transplant. In the past month I've gone to putting a plastic cylinder in the pots all the way to the bottom, then watering just a solo cup diameter core of the pot with 1L of week 1-3 solution to runoff, then removing the cylinder and germinating the seed directly in the pot under a clear plastic cup. After 2 weeks of watering between 25-100ml of the same solution daily I start expanding my watering to the outside perimeter of the pot at 250ml daily. At week 4 I up the nutrient levels and soak the pot with 1.5L of solution, wait till it drys completely, then feed 1L each watering until it becomes daily, then 1.5L till daily, then 2L daily, with 2.5L daily being the most I've had a plant take daily. Using this method I'm getting plants 10in tall, by 12in wide in 3 weeks from seed. Are other peoples dimensions comparable?

J47 from seed 12/24
