Usually a Message will appear in the little envelope icon next to the bell icon that alerts you to posts.
Posts are on the forum and messages are private or shared. The icon brings "Conversations" that are messages.

You can always tell when there are good tunes backed up, nobody wants the page to run out.

so for example, im replying on this post to you @Feenix which gets my message count up (like where it says messages under my name) which in turn gets my post count up?
