Canna Jedi in training.
Hello Friends! Here's a recap of my favorite plant thus far: the Red Poison! First off, big thanks to Sweet Seeds for excellent genetics, you have a customer for life with me! Thanks also to AFN for advice, guidance, and motivation! On with the show!
_____
Setup is as follows: Tent is Lighthouse Hydro 2x4x5, intake is passive and assisted by 4" duct booster type fan + 4" ducting, exhaust is Ventech 6" inline fan and carbon filter combo, lights are 450w LED panel plus 6x 23w CFL's plus 2x 24" T8 Floro tubes ziptied to the up poles plus 2x ZooMed UVB 10.0 (10%) bulbs (a 10w + a 26w), pots are 3gal Viagrow fabric Smart Pots, soil is my own organic mix, additional nutrition provided by teas plus General Organics GO Box in non-ph'ed rainwater.
_____
Preface: Looking through the Sweet Seeds catalog, there were so many yummy sounding and looking plants, but KylieKay's Red Poison grow is what finally sold me. I'd never had nor seen Cannabis like that and I knew it must be worth a try. I'm glad I did, because it has been a most amazing plant to grow. This was my third round of growing, but my first plant grown start to finish after joining AFN. I mention this because the plant was extremely friendly to grow, and would make a good choice for beginners and experts alike. I have a long way to go on the experience but it rewarded me very nicely!
With Organics, and even with added nutrition via GO, I could not burn her. I amend my soils very heavily at planting and it tore right through all of it By the end, I was at full strength food plus teas and it still wanted more! Next time I'll probably push harder. Be very cautious if using chem nutes, she might not take full blast like she does with organics.

Now let's get on with the pics shall we? That's what you want to see anyways lol!
8/12- A nicely done and professional card with seeds safely in a glued-closed vial.
---
8/18- A couple days above soil, with the comrades hehe.
---
9/15- About a month later, we've got a nice bush, healthy leaves, good frame.
---
9/22- This is where things got interesting... Top pistils began coloring up to pinks and purples! I knew then this was something special!
---
9/22- It did the "tiger stripes" thing that a lot of plants do, I wasn't too surprised... Later on the tiger stripes would become more and more purple, less and less green, until the stalk and stems were completely colored!
---
9/24- Nice flowers forming.
---
9/25- More pistil color, trichomes starting
---
10/02- Starting to really look cool now...
---
10/03- Yup, trichomes.
---
10/10- Oh boy, this is starting to look really amazing!
---
10/13- Attempting pro pictures lol! This strain is just so darn photogenic!
---
10/13- Nice cola, you can tell here that the undersides of the leaves are all pinks and purples! This is something I had never seen or dreamed possible!
---
10/13- Sugar lady shot! Good grief I need a new camera...Sweet Seeds please forgive my horrible camera lol, I swear on Gonesh that I'll acquire a new camera from Santa for Christmas, and I'll be sure not to post any reindeer selfies found on said cam lol.
---
10/22- These are the last of the alive Red Poison shots The bud leaves transformed into various hues of red, orange, purple, and a few yellows and a couple sporadic neon greens. The buds swelled up to huge ROCK SOLID nugs, and it was growing buds on top of buds at this point.
---
10/22- Last time in the tent, that's a TH Seeds Bubblegum on the L and a generic Blueberry Auto on the R.
---
10/22- After my "Stage 1" trimming, which is just defoilation of major leaves. She's got a nice structure like I mentioned, a very nice bud site layout, and overall excellent profile.
---
10/22- Cola color, just absolutely stunning. I think this Red Poison cola has every single color in the world in it lmao!
---
10/22- Another angle
---
10/22- Even the middle and lower buds are absolutely caked in trichomes, and are definitely Grade A+ primo herb.
---
10/22- See! There is no B Grade herb on this plant anywhere haha! Popcorn buds? Doesn't really apply to this plant lol.
---
Okay so she got cut and hung whole on the morning of 10/22. I'm personally a fan of cutting a plant whole, leaving some of the bud leaves on, and hanging it whole for a few days. Now, between the heat, massive airflow, and low relative humidity lately, the tent could easily overdry the herb if not checked carefully... and I've overdried several plants, its not good. So what I have to do is hang for a couple days and paper bag or jar early.
Today, mid 10/24 I did my Stage 2 trim job and prepared it for jars. By doing this, I can bring the herb inside where I can control the jars better than I can control the tent drying environment. I'll leave the lids off for several hours, seal it up for awhile, remove lid for a few hours, and repeat. This will dry it very slowly over a few days, and then it'll be ready for the standard week of burping jars, then the long sealed cure... If I can keep my now sticky fingers out of the jars! It's going to be very difficult with herb this good haha!
---
Pics going into Jars:
10/24- Group photo? lol
---
10/24- Mmmmm there's those awesome colors again!
---
10/24- Sunlight jumping off those crystals!
---
10/24- Everything, I mean everything, is covered in crystals! I even left on a fair bit of sugar leaf because it was so coated! Plus I don't mind a bit of leaf, it's good for medicine
---
10/24- And there she goes! Notice the RH is between 70-80% on the CureCaps, obviously too high, so I'll be leaving the tops off and on for awhile. It's a pain this way, I know, but it's infinitely better than overdried herb haha!
_____________
Final Thoughts and Taste Test: I did quick-dry and sample a couple small lower nugs and WOWWW! I'm serious this is strong herb! Maybe I just grew it right, but it is serious business! I mean just look at those trichomes. The smells this thing cranks out when growing is amazing, but it really didn't smell like "weed" much. It sorta smelled like incense (not the cheap crap), herbs like maybe thyme or basil or something, pepper, and a bit of unknown fruit.
Taste was absolutely excellent, with hints of some fruit flavor that I couldn't quite put my finger on, a bit of licorice, hints of pepper, and a creamy flavor and smoke texture. Zero harshness at all, even with the early quick dry. This is probably due to my organic soil mix though... I hear the hydro guys get a harsh chem taste commonly.
It seemed to like everything I did, with the fabric pots, and post harvest roots examination showed a healthy and robust taproot going about halfway down, with feeder roots going all through the entirety of the 3Gal fabric pot. It absolutely loved the General Organics food also.
I never had any burns or deficiencies, or frankly any problems at all! Final weight was 20.4 grams of pure premium organic Cannabis. I have another lil baby Red Poison, and I will be growing this strain for a long long time! If you're on the fence and thinking about getting Red Poison from Sweet Seeds, just go for it! You'll be glad you did
Thank you friends! If you want to see the exact step by step details of the whole grow, check out my "Perpetual Science Experiment" grow journal/journey? haha! Thanks again Sweet Seeds and AFN.
