New Grower Another is it done question :)

Wheredaweedat, you pointed me in the right direction I think. Not all strains will amber. It appears that mostly Sativas will amber. Other things we can look for is changes in trichome color, pistil color, leaf color, and the shape of trichomes. I read that trichomes will start to flop over when ready. (I have also read that...floppy trichs :) floppy.jpg)

I examined my trichomes for a long time tonight under 60x. (I feel like i remember reading somewhere that anything over 30x is really just overkill? *shrugs* with all the different crap floating around about this subject who knows ;P) I see a few brown, a few droppers and mostly white. Like snow white crystals. Like Supermans ice palace :) (Supermans ice palace is EXACTLY what I think of every time I have a gander of one of my girls, its great int it? lol - 20140514_202148.jpg

This is a good article, but leaves me with more questions than answers :)

(^^ tis a good article. Though Im wondering how much of it can be related back to autoflowering plants, cause Ive read that there are a lot of differences between a photoperiod plant and an auto.)
:)

Hey Muddy, I've read your sticky 1,000 times over and I know your answer is going to be something along the lines of 'get better nutes and you wouldn't have this problem' lol

HOWEVER.
without a PPM meter and or soil test kit - how do you differentiate between a SEVERE nutrient deficiency and finishing?

Example - I have a girl (Fast Bud #1 from sweet seeds) thats on day 67 from seed. She's been flowering for 55 and is marketed as a 60 day finisher, emphasis on the marketed lol. I don't see one amber tric but her leaves are in awful shape.
Now I've been told on more than one occasion by Waira (hes a big fan of mine lol) that my nutes are lacking in the P-K area. I do have his recommendation of SeaGrow GrowMore bloom (4-26-26) on the way but its probably too late in the game to hit her with that when it gets here.
So my current available nute line up for her has been the GH Flora Series micro at 5-0-1 grow-2-1-6 bloom - 0-5-4 Miracle Grow QuickStart at 4-12-4 and DynaGro Mag Pro at 2-15-4.
I last gave her (all are per gallon) 1 tsp of the DynaGro and 1/2 tsp of the MG 5 days ago.
So how can I tell if she's closing in on harvest or is severely lacking when going by trichomes and breeder times are not reliable ways to go?

Pay no attention to what the seed banks say regarding finishing times. If you switch your plants to bloom nutes as soon as they show sex they can finish in those advertised times but you will lose a good two weeks of rapid veg growth that takes place between weeks 4-6, which will result in smaller plants and corresponding lower yields. To me, it's worth the extra 2-3 weeks for the increased yields.

Looking at your plants I see spotting on the lower leaves that could indicate a cal/mag issue. Whether it is a deficiency or a pH lockout issue can't be determined unless you have a pH meter or test kit to check the pH of your run off. If you did have an issue it could account for your leaves dying off early and a corresponding decrease in overall size and yield. I've used the GH Flora trio myself without any additional additives and have gotten good results. No deficiencies in plants that have gone as long as 13 weeks.

I do have the GH pH test kit with the up and down included but I havent actually checked her run off in quite a while. She's in a smart pot and its so difficult for me to catch run off from them. But if you have used the Flora trio with no problems with nothing additional, then there's a good chance that it is in fact my pH.

^^ I don't want to go under the wrong impression here, because I tend to do that lol, but are you implying that autos typically take 2-3 weeks longer than whats advertised? Because if thats the case, thats the most concrete, solid answer that I've seen with regards to the iffy subject of finishing times.

PS- I have seen you mentioned on another website as being "The Knowledgeable Muddy" and I kinda feel like I'm talking to a celebrity haha shall I roll out the red carpet ;)

I do add a bloom booster to beef the buds up a bit but the Flora Trio is capable of good grows without it. The pH is were I would look first.

It's been proven here in grow after grow. If you stay on veg nutes until vertical growth stops, usually during weeks 5-6, before switching to bloom nutes you will get bigger plants and the corresponding increase in yields. While the seed banks aren't really lying, they aren't telling the whole story. They seem to think that speed is the only consideration. Naw, I still put my pants on one leg at a time. I've just been doing this for a long time.

OK Muddy now what?

pH of water + blackstrap molasses (dont you laugh at my tupperware, I couldn't find the little vial...my boyfriend stepped on it lol)

Sorry, I don't use those test kits so don't know what readings the colors correspond to.

Thats why I held up the bottle ;)

gh_ph_chart.png

The top photo, I take to be at 4 or lower.
2nd photo I would say looks about 6.3
3rd I would say looks to be 6.5-6.6

Input and runoff look pretty close to 6.5 so you shouldnt be too far off....
The accuracy of the drops is around +-0.5

Well the only reason I went and checked her pH runoff was because she's showing a cal mag deficiency. If you go back a few posts (or check my journal)you can see pics of her and get the back story. I'm just confused now, hearing that a good grow (with out nute related complications or needing to supplement) can being accomplished using the flora series(which I am).
