Hi fellow AFN'ers. Long time listener, first time caller.
I bought 3 amnesia haze autos from ILGM. This is my first grow. It is a single plant under a 300w galaxyhydro, in a 12" H X 12" diameter pot (its tapered, so not a true cylinder, about a 5 gal pot I think). She is the only one of the 3 seeds that made it beyond a week of sprout. Tent is 32"x32"x63". Light is currently about 12 inches from the highest cola (which is the true main..you can't make that thing stop growing no matter how far you tie it down).
This plant, I call her Amanda, was born July 25th 2016. I started LST'ing by tie downs August 11th. First the main stem, and then all the shoots. The method was "down and to the outside" on everything. Is that technically called "star" pattern tie down? After a while of this I notice the middle of my plant was bare stems and fan leaves and small pre flowers not doing much. I thought, well, thats just stupid..all the colas are on the outside of the pot, nothing in the middle directly under the light. It was a little two late to change the method, but now I am starting to see the middle colas start to rise up and take shape.
All of the large colas are on the outside of the pots footprint as you can see, and just outside the physical footprint of the light's chassis by about 3" on both sides.
Is my LST job "ok"?
Was this the wrong method?
What would you have done differently?
What will happen to all those colas on the outside that are taller, fuller, and further away form the light laterally?
Can I defoliate? Some say yes, some say no.
These photos taken today. Don't mind the droopiness, she does that when the lights are off and perks right up when they come on. I haven't had any problems so far. Slight nute burn on tips using grow big at 1/4 but nothing worth writing home about.
