Indoor Always issues around this time of the grow. Not sure what the deal is

This happens to me all of the time. I feed 6 girls off the same res and at least one will be fussy. It looks like a Potassium and Magnesium deficiency or lock out? They look the same. If it is a lock out then the likely culprit is Cal-Mag but you are feeding a fairly low PPM and not all elements may be in balance. This could lead to an actual shortage in P-K-Mg. This is what I believe is the problem bump your PPM up to 600, add 1g Epsom Salt per gallon. Use the Astroflower in your mix.

I'll up the strength. Doubling immediately won't be too much of an increase?

Ive also noticed small flies lately which apparently are fungus gnats ? There doesn't seem to be a lot, but I defoliated around the bottom for better airflow and ordered some sticky yellow traps and gnat nix which hopefully will arrive soon. From what I read, they can cause deficiencies, though I've had this problem basically every grow and this is the first time I've seen them. Im thinking from contaminated coco? I bought it from a garden supply shop but Im thinking it was stored outside /near other contaminated products.

I can’t comment on the gnats as I’ve never had to deal with them, but regarding doubling the strength, that’s something I have done in the past seemingly without ill effects; however, I’m currently growing in coco using cocoforcannabis as a guide, and at least according to that guy, he recommends gradual ppm increases limited to 100ppm per day. Just food for thought :p

Good luck!

That's what has me worried lol. According to cocoforcannabis.com, my runoff values are fine...

Remo recommends 2mls per liter for the first 4 weeks of flower, moving up to 3mls per liter. I'm @ 0.9mls/liter. Ill bump it up to 1.2mls/liter next res change and see if things improve.

Just on the gnats (since MoG has you covered re. feeding), they only get attracted to wet surface layer, so you could probably just let her dry a little more. They lose interest in a dry top layer overnight, cos they need a moist layer to lay eggs. Good luck bud

I have never had a problem going up or down 300PPM on nutrients but it is true that it increases the osmotic pressure on the root system. The thing about coco and hydro in general is you can make 100 PPM increments by fertigating several times a day raising the PPM each time. This would be problematic in soil.

The gnats could come in the soil or from anywhere. It sounds like you have a good plan for control. Don't let your coco dry out too much as that will cause other problems. Farming ain't easy!

I haven't been able to get coco or soil dry enough without affecting a rooted plant for this to really work once there's an actual infestation, but it can work for a few gnats. I envy those who have been able to get rid of gnats this way. But, the gnats I've had multiply really really fast and those larvae and eggs will survive dry media for quite a long time... so i believe, @JayGeeCanuck , that to be on the safe side, make sure not to let them take hold of your coco (or any plants in your home)... aim for almost zero presence of them. I'd also get some BTi (e.g. Mosquito Bits) for backup and maybe for one preventive watering with it. I may just be paranoid about these little critters since I've recently come from an almost 10 months long battle against fungus gnats in my home, but things only began to get better after I recently mixed sticky traps, BTi, and an electric bug-zapping racket in my daily routines.

Oh, and if you do get BTi, get a known brand. I was using some local brand that just wasn't working after months of using it, but once I got the one from Summit, it was effective within a week. Oh, and that Gnat nix looks promising! Please let us know how it works out!

Yeah the coco has to stay wet. I was hoping for something I didn't have to add that could affect the plant. That nix stuff was available from an online hydro store I use, so after looking at their video, I figured it might work? We'll see. If it doesn't, I'll definitely try bti.

I mixed another batch at 1.2mls/liter. Ec is 859. I'll see how they tolerate this first.

Looks like a salt build up to me. But if you’ve been feeding the coco just water again, it can mess with the ph in the pot. How much run off are you getting with each feed? You said you’re feeding three times a day right? If so, are you feeding to run off every feed each day? Or just the last feed of the day? I think there is a salt build up in there. I’m assuming you aren’t getting enough run off with your feeds. But judging by the colour of your leaves, it is also hungry for more food..

I’d maybe try a root cleaner to break down any salts, then bump up your feeds to around 500 and see how it goes

2x a day. Probably a bit more than 20% runoff. Put 10 gallons in over the course of a week or so and my shop vac has 2-2.5gallons in it. Runoff is never high (and shouldn't be at these low feed rates).

I did ph that water, but if it's low nutrients, the plain water would make it worse Im sure. Now that I've increased strength, maybe I can resume the intermittent waterings?

I have enzymes I could add again...i did put them in the res when I went to bloom nutes, but that was with half tap / half ro, which was completely ph unstable. Was it the enzymes? Should they be mixed fresh into the nutes each time, or can they be mixed and left in there over the course of 7-10 days?
