Indoor ALL ABOARD, the Atrain 420 EXPRESS!!!

(If I remember correctly)

but is it treated the same as coco as it relates to desired pH range? soilless/coco is something like 5.6 to 6.2 (aprox.) and soil is something like 6.2 to 6.8.

Which pH range is desired for Pro-Mix BX?

I have no experience with it myself.

Oh ok well there both peat based. Difference is one has added vermuclite the b.x. To retain more moisture which is why it's great under hps as it won't dry out as quick and the hp has added peat to have more drainage hp for high porosity which is why it's better for led, but they're both peat based, and is why it's soilless cuz peat isn't soil

Muddy's post (#2) seems to be on point.

"Pro Mix is all I use for all my growing. According to the manufacturer, Premier Horticulture, Pro Mix is considered semi soil less. Not a true soil less medium like coco, but not a soil medium either. In my experience, plants grown in Pro Mix do best with a pH of around 6.2 - 6.3. I've tried running as low as 5.8 but got better results with the slightly higher pH. Since Pro Mix only contains starter nutes, it's up to you to supply all the nutrients for the plants. I generally find that the starter nutes are exhausted within the first two weeks, so usually start mild, 1/4 strength feedings around day 12 - 15. I've got some seedlings right now that just popped and I'm planning on giving them nutes even earlier this grow, on their first watering which is usually around day 6 or 7. I want to see what difference, if any it makes."

So...sorta in between, it looks like.

Yes it is and There is ton more info you can find. But it won't come to you without you actually looking for it. Like I said everything I have said is based on the stuff I read from him, and I apologize as if it seems like wrong info but I thought a guru like muddy would know what he's talking about.

:shrug:I'm confused... i thought we were talking about PH reduction using Aluminium Sulphate and now we onto Dolomite ?, maybe i missed something ? or maybe I should not have waked and baked this morning.....
[emoji38]Stoned:.....yep......:LikeWeed:
I think that's what's not being understood that aluminum sulfate reduces ph while dolomite increases it. It's stated the ph is a bit high out of the bag and adding lime would only increase ph. So then high ph from the beginning is kind of a no no, but Its based on what I read from muddy and could be that maybe the batches he got were high in ph and Is why he adds 17% sulfate to it. On all his grows. But could be that just the bags he gets are high in ph, and all the other bags everybody else get are low in ph.

Yeah, originally atrain PM'd me and asked if it was okay that the Lime he got was granulated as he had expected it to be powdered..I said "Heck yah, that's exactly what I use...works great" but I didn't realize he was in a semi-soilless medium. So it seems that we have atrain a bit twisted up here as he (From Muddy's suggestion) should be trying to achieve around 6.2 - 6.3 pH in Pro-Mix BX which is higher than Coco but lower than standard soil mediums. And he has Garden Lime in there now. So it's always gently going to be trying to get to 7.0. I think it will work out fine, atrain just needs to buffer his feeds a little lower.
