I bought a pack of 3 Jack 47 Autofem seeds at the Amsterdam Seed Centre on Gravenstraat in Amsterdam in December 2013, along with a 3-pack of Green Poison Autos. I tried to germinate one J47 in January, then another in April and the third last week. All 3 failed to germinate, or show any sign of life at all. In the past 18 months, these have been the only failures out of 20 attempts.

My usual germination method is to float the seed in water overnight, then transfer to a wet paper towel and keep it in a cool and dark place until germination, usually 24 to 36 hours later. Any seed that has not germinated in that time I place in soil and wait.

At the same time as the final J47, I germinated a Northern Lights auto (breeder unknown) I bought in 2012. It is now on its second set of leaves.

Jack Herer is my favorite sativa and I was really looking forward to growing this hybrid. I'm not looking for a refund, or even replacement seeds (I could lose everything here, including my house, if seeds were found in the mail). But I would like to ask if Sweet Seeds is aware of any problem, or if I was just unlucky. BTW, I germinated one of the Green Poison seeds with no issues.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

sorry too hear the news brv, that not good,iv had one or too beans in the past not germinated but that be down too me some times, but not all 3,:karma Cloud: for you next run Peace Kudo.jpg

Sorry to hear of your troubles meng :( I can see right off the bat one thing that could be preventing germination, keeping in a cool place, you want the seeds to germ between 75-85f, I always go straight to pot without any trouble and got one jack 47 going now that sprouted just fine.... How long did you let them sit in the soil for? I've had seeds take upwards of two weeks before popping...
Better luck next time and again sorry to hear of your troubles....

Hi Cannaficianado!

Thanks for sharing your experience and sorry to know about the poor results.

So, you bought them in December 2013, but what is the date printed in the package?

If you keep the package please tell me about the lote number also, so that I can share this with our breeders. Considering the date you bought them, this is not a very recent batch/lote so if there was any problem with that precise lote I suppose our breeders should already be aware of it due to other possible feedback from other growers.

I recently tried to germinate around 80 seeds. 60 of them were recent (dated from October 2013 and after) and amazingly all the 60 germinated, I was very surprised as I was not expecting a 100% germination rate. The other 20 were seeds that I had here for a long time, stocked in my place since 2008-2011.

From these 20 seeds only 4 sprouted and one of the four is still strugling to get the fist pair of leaves. Just thought I should share this because it seems that 18-24 months after the seeds were harvested the germination rates drop. And it's even more serious when they are not properly stored.

So, my guess is that wether they were a bit old already or they were not properly stored somewhere between the Sweet Seeds warehouses and you. I don't know the shop where you bought them but Amsterdam is a very touristic place where sometimes adecuate storage is not a priority. Most clients are foreigners and they don't come back to complaint when something goes wrong.

But let me know about the lote number because it would also be a problem with that lote, of course, I've just been talking about possibilities and a failure with Sweet Seeds responsability is obviously a possibility.

Kind regards,

tommy

Thanks for the replies, guys.

KUDO, thanks for the sympathy and karma.

Yoda...it never goes below 75F where I live, 85F is about average. I usually leave seeds in soil for a couple of weeks if they fail to pop in wet kitchen paper.

Tommy...I ditched the packaging because I was traveling, so I can't provide any details. I kept the the seeds in the clear plastic vial they came in and stored them in darkness in the fridge. Amsterdam Seed Center is not a typical tourist place (doesn't look like a seed shop from the outside) - it's more like an office, and I was impressed with the standard of service. But ya never know. Guess without the lot number there's nothing much you can do, but I appreciate your reply anyway. A Green Poison auto I bought at the same time is doing just fine. :smoke:
