As we all know money is realy tight,is there a real big differance between the highest priced hps bulbs and the lower priced ones? I'm not a commerical grower, just growing for ourselfs as we are both disabled. Thanks

A lot of the higher priced bulbs have expanded light spectrums designed just for growing weed. Most HPS tend to favor the red end of the spectrum for flowering. Companies like Hortilux have expanded the blue spectrum in their bulbs to provide better veg growth. A good HPS with expanded blue can be used for the whole grow and eliminate the need to change bulbs between veg and flowering. Even though they cost more, you only need to buy one bulb instead of two.

get a sunmaster dual spectrum hps bulb, a 600w will set u back £15 - £20 , not sure about dollars but they are an awesome bulb for the price and id go as far as to say will match quality/quantity and density of any of the £60 eye hortilux or whatever the newestr brand is.

you shoud also consider a 400w ceramic metal halide bulb set up, just need a 400w magnetic hps ballast to run a cmh bulb, it should pretty much match your yeild if you have a good reflector and id say the quality will be a bit better as a cmh bulb is as close to the suns spectrum as you can get with an h.i.d. two 400w cmh will easily match a 1000w hps for yeild and better quality. they also run cooler aswell.

try putting a couple of 26w 10.0 uvb lights on for a few hours per day when in flowering as this will boost your trichome production alot making your meds more potent.

As muddy says there is a difference. In most cases the more expensive ones are made more for growing and put out more lumens then the cheaper same wattage bulb and have a more advanced spectrum. The hortilux has a broader blue spectrum therefore will work much better for veg then a cheaper 600 HPS bulb. I used to run a 400 MH for veg and 400 cheap HPS grow bulb with a switchable ballast. I then switched to a son agro 600 HPS then to the hortilux 600. I can tell you from my experience that the hortilux 600 works better then the son agro and that it alone has provided me with better growth and yield then when when I ran the MH and HPS.

I use the Hortilux Eye 600W Watt Super HPS bulbs, i am pretty happy with them.

The cheap bulbs will get the job done but you will see a difference with the good ones, as they have more of the whole spectrum.

My buddy bought a 600w lumatek hps to use with his lumatek switchable ballast. He hasnt used it yet but from reading it seems to have one of the highest lumen rating. What do you guys think about the lumatek bulbs?

I have a 600w switchable dimmable digi ballast from lumatek and run a advanced nutes baddass hps red diamond rated At 90000 lumens and it's awesome

im using a 600watt Ushio.. They seem to be pretty bang for buck. was gonna try the hortilux eye but herd they wasnt doing to good with some of the cheaper digi ballast, but idk
