New Grower 2nd Grow Mephisto Double Grape and Dutch Passion CBD Charlotte’s Angel Auto in Coco

Thanks for that info! I just recently heard that defol shouldn’t be done during the stretch and transition so i was going to wait until after before hacking away. Most of her is tied down around the perimeter already and she is fairly open in structure. A few leaves removed near the middle should expose a lot. I’m happy with her structure at this point though she isn’t laser level flat like your plants.
I’ve also read that dropping lights on temps towards the end of flower mimics fall temps and naturally encourages bud production. I follow the VPD charts as best as I can for environment but it kind of makes sense to mimic the seasons. Have you found this to be true? I ask because I’m pretty sure you’re a more experienced grower.

I differ in opinion - I defoliate continuously from week ~3-6/7. Particularly during veg and stretch, I want as little energy as possible put into leaf growth. Yes, photosynthetic capability is important, but much less so when you have a plant in a controlled environment being fed supplemental nutrients.

If a leaf blocks light to a bud site, node or a leaf beneath, it is removed. It's what's worked for me and has been consistent in terms of plant structure, yield and quality across numerous plants/grows.

Yes, I think there is enough research (albeit heavily biased on the subjective side) and experimentation to say that mimicking end of season conditions towards the end of a grow initiate processes within a plant that have beneficial outcomes in terms of flower production, i.e.: swelling, coloring, trichome production, etc... It is a genetic response mechanism to further chances of survival.

I've seen reduced light duration, reduced ambient temperature, hours in darkness, consecutive ice cube waterings, screw/nail or knife through the primary stalk... All supposed to do the same, initiate that response mechanism.

I've done ice cube watering and periods of time in darkness. I can't objectively say whether or not they make a difference but in my head they do... So I shall continue with what I believe is working for me.

Thanks for the response. I’ll keep it in mind and have a good look at the plant. I’ll do a gradual defoliation to clear up anything down low and open up the plant a little more. I have a feeling she will be my highest yielding plant to date but I really am looking for quality buds.

DAY 48. -
Double Grape - 36” wide and 14” tall. Without training she’d probably be the opposite in dimensions. Snipped a few leaves off to expose the lowers more.

CBD Charlotte’s Angel

She has not stretched and I don’t expect her to now. Node spacing is really tight, I defoliated a little where her leaves are compact. I am expecting tight, dense buds from her. A nice surprise that she is super greasy. Her grease has an amazing aroma of fruit, candy, and fuel; kind of reminds me of 4Assed Monkey. She is small, about 16” wide and 13” tall as I have her main cola tied down.

Lots prettier than a 4 ass monkey! Lookin good--:jointman:

Jus thought I’d post up my Battle plants in here for those not checking out the battles. No expectation for winning or placing, just lovin’ and growin’.

DAY 45 - MEPHISTO SODK aka “The Lorax”

She is 43” tall and still stretching. I’ve hesitantly cut a bit off the bottom that won’t get much light. I don’t really want popcorn buds but cutting off bud sites isn’t the most comfortable feeling. Lol

I hear ya, snipping lower sites, mentality can be challenging ...... But now she will give remaining sites more attention, you will be rewarded .....

Keep up the good work! :shooty:
