1st time grower having issues with seedling

Problem: A leaf on the 2nd set of true leaves won't grow and looks shriveled.

Medium/grow method: Living Organic Soil in 7 gallon pot

Feed and supplements used: KIS organic nutrient pack, just water by hand when pots are light.

water source: RO

Strain/age: Memphisto NCHx3BOG

light used: Autocob 18/6 - 30-32 inches from top of seedling

Climate: H:80F L:70F for temp, H:56 L:83 for RH

Additional info: When the 2nd set of true leaves started to grow, one of the leaves looked shriveled and deformed from the beginning. I also noticed what I think is a fungus gnat flying around in the tent. Any help is greatly appreciated.

heya @Collie and to afn! ...or at least the sickhouse part of it but seriously, u must be seein sumthin i'm not, cuz she lookz peachy to me however, if that was in fact a fungus gnat u saw, and not jus a rando flyer, then it meanz only one thing -> wet soil...and trust me, u do not wanna have to deal with fungus gnatz! u might wanna g'head & put some de or sand over ur topsoil jus in case...better safe than sorry, etc etc... ppp

Nothing wrong from my view. Let it grow. take care of that flyer asap.

Got a few fruit flies myself at the moment. I have 250g of DE and 6x 3gal pots.

Do I want to entirely cover the entire surface of each pot with DE or just sprinkle a little around on the soil surface?

well, fruit fliez & fungus gnatz are two completely diff animalz, lol...the worst fruit fliez will do is get in & munch a few leavez here & there mebbe, but fungus gnatz are a whole other matter, cuz they live underground & eat rootz either way, a good dusting of de never hurtz...jus know that u'll hafta reapply after watering, cuz it losez itz propertiez after gettin wet, and keep check on ur soil ph, cuz it can raize it a bit ppp

Hmmm.... how long did you let the mix cook in? I don't think mix and plant right away is recommended, too hot, and in-pot pH needs to be monitored just to be sure,...
That said, young leaves are prone to various causes for distortion, often they grow out of it unless it's genetic.... let's see what a week brings...

I let the soil cook for a little over 3 weeks, turning it and lightly watering it every other day. It was definitely just paranoia because that leaf looks fine now. At this point i'm just waiting for DE to come in the mail, so I can take care of these fungus gnats. Thanks again guys for the reassurance and help!

Just used some DE myself. Can confirm it works for fruit flies. Might need a few applications as well as some sticky traps on sticks. Careful when applying AND watering later on, that dust flies up into your lungs! Get a duster or sprinkler to apply it, makes life so much easier to evenly disperse it, otherwise you will end up mix it in with your hands a bit.

FWIW adding neemcake to your soil from the start seems to be a really effective prevention method but i have not tried it yet. I do have Neem oil but would prefer the powder, as it is water soluble, vs needing a wetting agent like soap in the sprayer, which never leaves me feeling great spraying soap on my leaves. Also, can only spray in veg...

Airpots tend to be nicer home for these guys cos of the many entrance points.

Covering the surface of the pot in a layer of washed sand will also work. Others have tried hydroton pebbles and perlite but with limited success.
