Indoor 1st Grow! Dutch Passion Think Different & Big Buddha Cheese. LED/CFL. Soil.

Med,
There are some great threads in the forum Lights. Seems many folks leave lights on their seedlings 24/0. Careful with the feedings, I overdid it in the first 2 weeks and it set me back. Good luck with yer grow!

I'm not familiar with the soil you are using. does it have any kind of nute's in it? if it does I would hold off on the feed for a couple week's. I'm using fox farm's ocean forest that I washed out a little and I've been only adding nute's at week 3-4. I'm not familiar with your nute's either so mabe some one else will chime in who has. :)

Hi elsamurai,

Thanks for popping in. The soil was purchased at an organic gardening center and had no fertilizer. I just watered/fed them today at 1/4 strength of the recommended dosage of the nutrients for seedlings. I will watch them carefully over the next couple of days.

Thanks Eggmansky, I will look around in there. The manufacturer of the lights (Mars Hydro) said not to run them for more than 20 hours a day. I do have supplemental CFL's and they run 24/7. I do have to adjust fan speed, etc..

Thelma & Louise get their first Feeding!

So I decided to name them Thelma & Louise (hopefully they are both female).

This is Thelma (Big Buddah Cheese) taken on day five after planting directly into soil.

And this is Louise (Think Different) , also taken day five after planting directly into soil.

And here they are today - Day 8 after sprouting. I took these before feeding. Left is Thelma (Cheese), right is Louise (TD)

Fed/watered first time today with General Hydroponics nutrients as follows:

1.25 ml (which is 1/4th of the strength recommended by manufacturer) of:

BioThrive Grow
CaMg
BioRoot
BioWeed

BioMarine and DiamondBlack are optional nutrients that I decided not to use this time.

Water was left out for more than 24 hours to dissapate chlorine. Nutrients added to water. Water PH'd to 6.5. Plants watered around outer rim of pot, working inwards until about 3" from seedling. Emptied runnoff from containers.

Currently, temperature fluctuates between 68 - 85 degrees F. Humidity ranges from 40% - 70%. Must run himidifier to get humidity above 35-40%.

Lights - LED & two 40w CFL's - 20 hours
Four 40w CFL's - 4 hours

Comments & Feedback welcome!

Not only will you watch over them carefully, you'll OBSESS! Hovering constantly! Hint: get a foam pad for your knees! I have one! I prolly need two! ...and yes...very much like having an infant. These things WANNA grow. Think twice before you do anything drastic. My initial prollem was wild swings in PH for the first two weeks. You WILL overcome! Good Luck!

hey MediJane, you should really only water around your plant's, not a thorough watering. this will make the root's search out water thusly making for stronger root's. let the soil dry some before you water again. after they get bigger then a full watering.

Uh Oh! I think I have a problem.... Is this a deficiency of some sort, or nute burn, PH problem???

It does look like something is about to jump off. TD is a hog when it comes to cal and mag, especially under LEDs, and that might be what is starting. I've had a few calmag issues, but they looked a bit different in the beginning. It's still a possibility though. Take a look at this:

Thanks for the link. Lots of good info there. I'm wondering if I should flush with PH'd water and CalMg?

I enjoyed reading your grow journal Round 2 with TD! Got some good tips there (and a few laughs).

Hello MediJane,

No flush at this stage. Water would stay there forever and besides, you do not know what to cure yet.

It is hard to say and I am far from defs expert but soil you use does not have any nutrients except compost, it seems. If that is true, you might experience N def. You say you water around, so the plant could be underfed not reaching enough food. Root system is very poor at this stage of growth and plant goes down with roots first. Distant water attracts roots, but does not provide food.

You talk about outrun so it seems you water quite intensive, maybe lack of food and a little bit overwatering caused that.

Check your soil for nutriens, if there are none inside, underfeeding might be problem. PH seems to be OK.

Good Luck!
