I didn't know where to post this so apologies if this is the wrong place. I am VERY new to growing and have no experience at all. I have read a lot here and thought I knew what to expect.

My 2 AK48 autos are 17 days old. I arrived home from work today, opened the front door of my house and smelled it immediately. Walking upstairs to the room where my plants are the smell got stronger. I expected to see an actual skunk sitting in the room and was looking around for the thing hoping it wouldn't jump out at me. There no skunk anywhere in the house so I put my nose right down to the top of one plant and I nearly fell over. It's like smelling a live skunk. The other plant does not smell like this.

So my question is, how is this even possible? it doesn't have buds or anything it's just a little baby. I was under the impression that terpenes are responsible for scent and surely this thing doesn't have those yet?

I wondered what bat guano smells like because I am using Happy Frog soil but it isn't the soil, it's actually coming from the top of the plant.

The other thing is that AK48 is not supposed to smell skunky.

I don't even want to think about what my house is going to smell like when this plant flowers :nono:

Any ideas what is going on with this?

Thanks,

I get really stinky ones every now and then, never that young though (yet) carbon filter time.

Yeah ...Don't wait till it's too late. My buddy had to pack it up because his carbon filter arrived exactly 1 hour too late. The building manager was standing in the hallway, and a little tiny helper fan that's on a rheostat switch kicked on and blew a want her way. He came in the door and immediately smelled it in the hallway and the manager asked him if he smelled it when he walked by. An hour later the doorbell rings and it's UPS with the filter. I got one the same day I came home and smelled a pair of GWK plants out by the road, 100+ feet from where they were, inside the house, inside a tent. Don't even think about growing good dope without a filter unless you got a card or it doesn't matter. Words of wisdom right here.

THEY'RE called KAAAAHBS Joe's dad's stuff

I am not worried about what people think. I own the house and it's on a half acre and besides it's legal here....but thanks for the advice. although I don't need my whole neighborhood to get nicknamed skunkorama avenue :gassy:

I don't care for skunky weed and bought a strain that shouldn't have had a skunky smell unless theres some rare pheno that makes it happen. I am hoping that my plant is having an adolescent temper tantrum that will end eventually LOL.

Don't like skunky weed?????? You hit your head or something? Lol. I love ALL kinds of dope as long as it looks, smells, feels and tastes good. If those are all on point, it'll get ya high too.

I used to have a German Shepard that loved playing with skunks. She thought they were cats I think. I've been sprayed more than once. and spent days smelling like it from head to toe. Not a good memory really :p

Yeah, that is surprising for a plant so young and budless. Quite the pheno you've got there. Skunk certainly is stinky. If it gets to the point of bothering you in the room you hang in most, you can consider an air purifier for that room. I have several and one is dedicated to my harvests. It helps.

I too had a dog that chased a skunk in the backyard and got blasted. I was just home from surgery and had to deal with that oh so overly perfumed nastiness. Not fun! Good luck.

He @LucidLucy you can sure send that smelly girl my way. if she’s bothering you. LMAO! Given your very fortunate situation regarding growing, I’d be jumping up and down celebrating. Lol. Nothing better than that smell, imo.

Did you manage to get the smell under control?

No the smell is the same, a little worse. I didn't want to grow in a tent but I have the tent, fan & filter in a shopping cart, I just haven't pulled the trigger. I really just want them out in an open room. If I have to change the plan then I will. I wasn't concerned about lower yields because I don't need a lot and I can grow all year long. I am going to continue this way and see what happens. I'll never know if I don't try it once.

I do appreciate my good fortune to be able to do this with no worries. I wouldn't do it otherwise. Growing living things is a peaceful hobby for me. I wouldn't want to be stressing about the legal issues.

It's sweet but I'll admit to a Little culture shock when I went to the large local gardening center that I have been shopping at for 23 years and find a whole section for weed all set up.
Foxfarms and other soils, vermiculite, etc and dozens of bottles of various brands of nutes. As I am perusing the wares a young employee pops up beside me and says " What are you growing? " (with a big grin on his face). I say "WEED" and he says "oh good, so am I " and we talked for about 20 minutes and he gave me some good advice about products to get started. I had already read about all of them but it was fun to speak it out loud in public :yay:

So it's great, but feels a little weird because I am still wired the other way.
