Bob's Journey into Hybridisation and Genetics - For Dummies

Day 57
Hey Friends,

Like you might have read in the previous posts, I'm finding the Mephisto's Wedding x Coal Miner's Daughter is nearing it's end...Her pistils are starting to shrivel and the calyx's are swelling up like little balloons...
So today I decided to have a look with the USB scope...Will you join me? 🫵

So let's begin with the above mention cross MW x CMD @ Day 57.
1688237007758 _small.jpg

Still way to much clear for me to cut her down...
1688237007748 _small.jpg

Guess these buds still have some maturing to do... 👌
1688237007740 _small.jpg

Lovely huh :hump:
1688237007732 _small.jpg

She still has three weeks until I leave, so by then she'll be ready. What do you guys think?
1688237007724 _small.jpg

While I was at it I also took a look at the Mephisto's Wedding and have a look what I found on the branch I pollinated :woohoo1:
1688237007708 _small.jpg

And another one...
1688237007697 _small.jpg

She also has still has loads of clear, but like her sister...She still has three weeks...She'll get there as well
1688237007688 _small.jpg

She is covered with trichomes on all sides though..A extraction monster, if I must guess...
1688237007677 _small.jpg

In some parts it's even looking like there's no more room...How the plant prevent these micro collisions from exposing the resin inside...
1688237007660 _small.jpg

Some parts of this lady are surely getting close...Some white is turning yellowish...
1688237007651 _small.jpg

And last but not least...The Double Grape x Toof Decay.
1688237007636 _small.jpg

She has the most amount of white trichomes, while her flowers are looking far from ready
1688237007626 _small.jpg

Nice fresh pistils everywhere you look and an amazing spread of trichomes everywhere you look....

Im no meteorologist, but I was, it be like:

I’d let you know “I see a front sweeping by your garden space. I will forecast a ‘Frost Warning‘, its beyond a watch at this point…. That’s right, some ‘Frosty Nuggs’ should appear around, or IN your Garden REAL Soon!” Take the necessary precautions prior to harvest please. Now back over to you Bob with the current updates from the Garden.

Thank you brother Emerald :toke: Consider me a warned man 👌:hump:
Because of rainy weather all the pictures I took with my phone today, where blurry or dark. So I went back after dark and took these...

The twins...Mephisto's Wedding @ day 57. Still not convinced about that back sister...She's starting to fill out, but at this rate we'll be here until the end of August. The front sister...now, that's another story. Frosty as hell and really compact. This is the keeper, that's for sure...
1688245214756 _small.jpg

Next up we have the Mephisto's Wedding x Coal Miner's Daughter, with it's gigantic phallic main cola standing erect inside the greenhouse. She looks almost ready, but the above pictures from her trichomes say otherwise. I'm keeping my eye on her in the coming weeks...
1688245214752 _small.jpg

Lastly we have Mephisto's Double Grape x Toof Decay, which is really filling up like a champ. Never would I have thought that a week ago! The plant is also doing some self maintenance, by extracting nutrients from some of the large fan leaves. Resulting in them shriveling up and falling off. That last stage I always try to prevent from happening, by removing them leaves before that happens. But I do like to let them hang as long as possible inside the greenhouse. It's a natural way for the plant to get rid of toxins and garbage.

Back to the weatherman 💥💨💠🎤

Day 59
Ya gotta love that Meph genetics! After my first run, I've always had at least one Meph girl!:headbang:
This is my second one. First was Port & Stilton and boy-o-boy, that was some good smoke, shame it was gone so fast :coffee2::haha:

I will always have room for a mephisto strain . Fantastic selection of you are looking for unique phenotypes.
There are some mighty sparkly girls in this lot, aren't there. The only one I'm the least interested in is the hind MW twin. She's starting to put out a mass of flowers, but I feel it she will only take to long. When we come back from holiday, we have a couple of garden parties and I would like all canna ladies to be out of there by then. Mum's the word, right ;)

For today I have some more close-up's for ya'll... :shooty:
1688404845394 _small.jpg

Where's Waldo?
1688404845389 _small.jpg

These are some nice and frosty buds, filled with seeds...
1688404845382 _small.jpg

Almost looks like a underwater photo... 🤿
1688404845378 _small.jpg

Bad angle on the first picture of this Double Grape x Toof Decay for seed watching, but oh so beautifull bud.... 🙌 "The trichomes...the trichomes, why won't anyone think of the trichomes" 👐
1688404845374 _small.jpg

In this next one the seeds are clearly visible
1688404845371 _small.jpg

Oh so frosty
1688404845367 _small.jpg

Gonna shut up now :hump:

@Bob's Auto's
Good job bro, can you tell something about the grow structure, side branches, size, pot size. Do you found traits that you think are special to breed for. Also interesting would how much different phonetypes you have.
Oh, this is just my first run and attempt to get me started. Let me explain  p.s. get a cup of coffee for this one ;)

A while back I got my hands on some killer regular auto genetics and after germinating four seeds (Mephisto's Wedding x Coal Miner's Daughter) I ended up with two male's and two female's. The female's went to the greenhouse, one for smoking and one for breeding. The one for smoking went into a 7gallon pot and the breeder stayed inside the 3.5L pot. The male's stayed inside the tent. I selected the one that had the most vigorous growth, which was also the one that flowered first. Anyway...When he was ready to be harvested I managed to get quite some pollen from him.
Now, I do have many more CMD (regular auto) crosses in my todo drawer, but due to the fact that I managed to get my hands on some real Meph gear ánd I really wanted to grow that Mephisto's Wedding, I opted for this 'regular' auto first. In the meantime I also got my hands on some Mephisto's Wedding x Forum Stomper (FoN), so that one also got thrown into the mix. With my order at Mephisto I also got the Double Grape x Toof Decay.

So to sum things up, I have the pollen from a Mephisto's Wedding x Coal Miner's Daughter, which pollinated:
  1. Mephisto's Wedding x Coal Miner's Daughter
  2. Mephisto's Wedding x Forum Stomper
  3. Mephisto's Wedding
  4. Double Grape x Toof Decay
n°1 Should be the interesting one, as the offspring will differ A LOT from it's parents, being an F2. Here everything comes out in the resulting offspring.
n°2 Is looking so nice and frosty. And crossing it will provide some interesting hybrid's in the new F1's.
n°3 Will give me a direct Bx to the Wedding, which in turn is could give me a regular M. Wedding genotype's to work with.
n°4 is pollinated because I have plans for the Double Grape part. Couldn't get my hands on genuine Double Grape and this was the closest and most interesting cross with the Double Grape in that I could get, so...

Now, will I like Mephisto's Wedding? I don't know, but the future will tell the truth... From all the Mephisto cultivars I have bought, this one had the most potential. We'll see :cheers:

You were asking about the structure of the plants, well I was quite amazed to see so much difference in the original Mephisto's Wedding. I only had two seeds, which was part of the trade I made to get seeds here. But the difference between the two sisters is just, wow! One has a small stature, superfast and is frosty as f#(k! The other one is the second largest plant in the greenhouse, branches far and wide. She's showing frost, but not like her sister.
But the one thing that's really kicking my bucket is that she's so frekkin' slow, she's only now putting on them pistils. I'm still in dubio if I should keep her or cull her. By August the ladies should all be gone from the greenhouse and this one will probably take +90 days to finish and that'll not do...

The most beautiful lady of the lot is definitely the Mephisto's Wedding x Coal Miner's Daughter. This variation (she's only F1) will make one hell of a SOG plant. And that's what my intentions will be with this one, if I like the smoke that is, is to make a SOG girl out of this. Now, the real search will come with the F2's as they will most likely split up in all the possible variations the gene pool has to offer.

Now the Mephisto's Wedding x Forum Stomper...I forgot to plant one out in a 7gallon pot so both stayed inside one 3.5L pot, after which I selected the most frosty gurl to remain and get pollinated. The other one got "tested" out and I must say...it tasted like hay, but got me wasted
So the real test will come after a real harvest, cure and smoke :coffee2::haha:

The Double Grape x Toof Decay is one large and spread out lady. She's quite slow...Not like the bigger Wedding sister, but still...
She is putting on weight and expanding them calyx's and will most likely be ready before the end of the month, which will be 86 days or so...
Frost wise I have no complaints as well. Nice chunky flowers with a nice layer of trichomes. Her sister in the smaller 3.5L pot was way ahead of her, even from the start of this grow. The amount of frost on this gurl is just...wow!!

Now, what do I look for in my breeder is:
  • Vigorous growth. It doesn't matter what they do (for now), as long as they are doing it healthy.
  • Speed. They have to be fast...+3 months is to long start to finish.
  • Large flower to leaf ratio = Easy trimming.
  • Stupendous amount of frost. We're not breeding leaves, right?
  • Being at least 50% Indica and up. I need my med's.
  • Taste, but this is always after the facts...

Well buddy, this is my entire breeding season in a nutshell. :toke:

You're welcome :toke:

Today I've got a doozy for you guys...+50 pictures. I'll try to keep it at 45, which would fit in three posts...
Let's get this show on the road ♩♬♬♪

The ladies are 60 days old today and they can use a bit of extra attention. So I gathered all my tea makin' supplies and got started. Yesterday I cleaned out the 50L tank and filled it 3/4 of the way up. There's about 40L of water inside, give or take...
To this I added 600gr PK Booster Compost tea, 100ml Orgatrex and 50ml Bio PK 5-8
1688487205422 _small.jpg

This will bubble away the next 24 to 30 hours. After which I will give each pot, 2L of the mix.

Mephisto's Wedding (Small and frosty) - Day 60
1688487205398 _small.jpg

This lady is reaching her finish line you guys...
1688487205394 _small.jpg

No fresh pistils to be found. And the ones that are still standing are almost looking petrified...
1688487205390 _small.jpg

This entire main stem is just covered with frost!!
1688487205385 _small.jpg

Then the hind sister. She's big, greenhouse big!! And if I had the time for her I'd keep her. Sadly this isn't written in the stars for this one and she'll get harvested just before we leave on holiday. She'll go fresh into the freezer, double bagged as my missus doesn't like the fact that everything smells like, you know what :coffee2::haha:
1688487205380 _small.jpg

She has some frosty nugs, but compared to her sister these are small.
1688487205376 _small.jpg

In the higher part of the plant fresh pistils can be seen.
1688487205372 _small.jpg

Given time this branch will close up.
1688487205368 _small.jpg

Next we have the Mephisto's Wedding x Coal Miner's Daughter.
1688487205363 _small.jpg

Only at the very top she continues poppin' pistils.
1688487205358 _small.jpg

But lower on the same plant pistils are harder to find, let alone fresh ones...
1688487205353 _small.jpg

One of the lower side shoots... Amazing amount of frost on this gurl!!
1688487205348 _small.jpg

I like her a lot!!
