I had a plant hermie a few months ago Ill load some pics of fully open and some closed male flowers at the bases of buds
Calyxs have more of a tear drop shape and should have a pistil or multiple pistils. These will start small maybe looking like a calyx but as they age they swell and develop ridges and look waxy. It happens quick tho. That one pod at the top is about half way to maturity. If you imagine it skinnier thats what they look like when they first show up. Hard to spot sometimes. This was about 8 days after I noticed one thinking it was a weird calyx
In my limited experience if the calyx is butted up against the node usually not, if it's away from the node on a little stem of it's own, pretty good chance
