Lighting herbalistssword Skyline 1000 grow diary

@Mañ'O'Green Thanks! Makes sense, I was expecting the pot to go back to the complete light weight! There is definitely an art to watering, I didn't really worry that much with my outside grow (I've only harvested 3 and have 5 more running) as I just watered and the let the water run off. Now I understand much more the impact of watering on the plants and much better about when to water, I'll need a few grows before I properly master it :)

Growing in biobizz light-mix, have added biotabs mycotrex and bactrex once to the soil (I haven't used the actual biotabs). Not used any nutrients yet.

Didn't know about the existence of hot spots, I shall read up more on that and how to prevent in future  thanks!
This is more a quality control issue with the soil vendor and one of the reasons I personally do not like precharged soils. Dump your soil in a big tub and stir it vigorously to eliminate any poorly mixed soil before using it.

When and what to start fertilizing is always just guess work with Bio-bizz light but most start a normal schedule at two to three weeks in?

Read up a bit about what those hot spots are. They are not hot spots as in heat, but hot spots as in activity. I think I know what caused it for the Candy Kush (white fading on leaves), some time last week I mixed in some mycotrex, and wasn't really stirred really well (I am meant to add into the soil before planting). The plants must have hit some concentration of mycotrex or the bit of soil that has it.

Thanks for that graph! very useful!

Yeah, sorry about that "hot" in the sense of nutrients means too much (and mostly nitrogen) fertilizer "burns" the plants.

New growers often want to reinvent the wheel by mixing and matching cleverly named concoctions to their demise. Names have nothing to do with plant nutrition. There are 17 elements necessary for plant growth. Along with several Bio-Stimulants that enhance the take-up and use of the elements.

Carbon, Oxygen, Hydrogen come from the air and water. This is the list of the rest in the amounts needed. The last on the list you don't want sodium.

Nutrient Guide.jpg

There must be a "Balance" in the elements because that balance determines the plants ability to take in the nutrients. It is called Liebig's Law of the Minimum.

It gets very complicated to work out the interactions between the elements as this chart demonstrates:
ScreenHunter_180 Feb. 22 22.16.jpg

So how do you keep the balance? Never feed a single element always feed a complete balanced fertigation. If you need to increase an element do so in the mix but never over the maximum amounts listed above.

Only use a single vendor for your 13 elements. Follow their chart and use ALL of the listed products in the schedule even if they have 14 parts. Bio-stimulants can be from various vendors just make sure they are not adding to the 13 elements you have already supplied. Many of the vendors that have 14 products in the line are mixing the various bio-stimulants in their secret sauces. The problem here is one of the 13 hiding in these?

So what about Autos and less than the recommended amounts. Many nutrient lines can and should be used at less than full strength in autos, not because they need fewer nutrients - it is more because they are smaller faster plants. The main thing here is if you use 50% strength nutrients you need 50% of each part of the formula to keep it in balance.

Great stuff! Thanks so much @Mañ'O'Green I have so much to learn. I got me a ph meter today, so definitely getting a bit more advanced :D

I had checked the bactrex (microbes and bacteria) and mycotrex (mycorhyzzal funghi) to make sure they don't contain any nutrients. I gathered it is the mycotrex because first search results said that rhizosphere is a microbial hotspot https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0038071715000449

So if I understand what happened, the mycorhyzzal funghi or bacteria I added caused some imbalance in the nutrients in a spot. If I had mixed the soil better and added the actual biotabs I probably wouldn't have had this problem.

Yes that can happen for sure. A lot of growers here use Recharge. It is a microbe feeder and booster. When it is applied it ramps up the microbe activity and they in turn increase the nutrients available to the plant. It is not likely this will burn a plant by itself but regular fertilization schedules need to be reduced to prevent overfeeding and lock-outs.

I think in this case it hit a clump of fertilizer that was not well blended into the soil and most likely the bat guano.

Much of what I diagnose in troubled plants is anecdotal. Without tissue sample testing It is just a guess. So be sure to take everything I say with a grain of salt.

how you plants coming on bro.:pass:

@Taipan missed that message :) thanks for asking, they are doing great! These lights are really amazing I never expected plants inside a tent to show better growth than under the sun. I've updated grow journal here with week 4-6 https://www.autoflower.org/ubs/blog/first-indoor-with-skyline-1000-led.202/

Week 6 of mixed variety indoor grow:

Finally caught up with all the weeks I missed, here they are at the time of writing: From topleft, clockwise: Candy Kush #1 d39 standing at 24 cms- Looking awesome, some pistils showing. Was too bushy so did some LST and slight defoliation today with supercrop on 1 branch. Candy Kush #2 d39...

here is what they look like now:

Looking great matey.. glad your loving the Skyline as much as your ladies are.. they rock :jointman: :d5: :karmacloud:

Ok, I am hijacking my own thread, but it is still relevant as these 2 outdoor plants ended up under some ledhydroponics sky100s

One of the outdoor plants started showing mold, so I've super cropped, lst and defoliated so that she can fit in my garage, here she is today:

She is quite happy in her custom enclosure hope she doesn't get any more mold. Which is what drove me to harvest this baby which was under the sky100 until the church above took over:

That is an older pic from last week, she lived under the lights on a temporary basis, when the weather was rubbish outside (so really most of the time the last month), being under the lights really helped the buds fatten up, I harvested 587gms of wet trimmed bud, currently drying :D

I haven't uploaded diary for peach puree but you can follow the greenhouse seeds 'the church' here (will update it tomorrow):

The Church Outdoor

Part of my first ever grow, this plant has been a pleasure to grow. With a big surprise on week 10 showing how amateur I am :) Following are pictures of her from seedling up to last Sunday which was the end of week 21. I germinated in the soil directly, I didn't know about the thing where you...

Right, back to the original grow :)

I am really happy with the lights but I am thinking of splitting the skyline 1000 in half, so make 2 units with 5 modules each. That way I can control the height separately for different plants and will get more lights in the edges. Does that void my warranty or anything @muddy-ledhydroponic ? seems as simple as remove some screws in the middle and putting 2 extra ratchets.

The girls are doing amazing, I discovered I was incorrectly mixing the nutrients as the biogrow is finish and the bottom of the bottle is quite thick, sticking to the watering can and not mixing when I stir it :S
Week 7 of mixed variety indoor grow

Week 7 of mixed variety indoor grow

End of week 7 day 49 for most of the girls. On day 43 I noticed the Sugar Mama was too bushy and a lot of lights was being blocked So I decided to defoliate and do LST, which looked much better and light got to most branches: But 6 days later by the end of the week (today) she looked...

Here is a group picture of what they look like today:
