Hey everyone, Son of Hobbes here, and getting ready to kick off my sponsored test grow for Mars Hydro!

Not only will I be testing the Mars II 1600W 5W LED unit, it will be my very first time growing with LED's ever. I'm making the switch coming from growing with a 1000W HPS/MH and two 400W HPS/MH. I've been warned that my first grow or two with LED's will be a bit of a learning curve with environmental issues being more of a concern, so hopefully can get some good advice from everyone and manage to grow a few plants! I would invite all of you to follow along and see what I can grow under this behemoth of a light over the next few grows!

Grow Objective:

My objective for this grow is to learn the basics of growing under LED lighting and being able to make a distinctive comparison between the 1600W LED light and my old 1000W HPS light.

The Grow Light:

Mars II 1600W 5W LED

The Grow Tent:

Mars Grow Tent 4' 9" x 4' 9" x 6' 7"

The Seeds:

x4 Mephisto Genetics Sour Bubblin' Crack (feminized)
x? (not decided on how many yet) Terrestrial Bean Company Cheesus Dragon (regular)

Pot Size
:

5 gallon buckets

Growing Medium:

Pro Mix Ultimate Organic Mix

The Nutrients:

  • Grow More Sea Grow 16-16-16
  • Grow More Sea Grow 4-26-26
  • Grow More Hawaiian Bloom 5-50-17
  • Botanicare CalMag Supplement
  • Silica Blast
  • SuperThrive

The Feeding Schedule:

I've been using a pretty simple feeding schedule with the Grow More nutes and it's been working out pretty well. I water when the pots are light and they are usually fed 2 to 3 times then given a plain water on the next feeding (repeated through grow.) So feed, feed, (possibly feed,) water, repeat.

The Grow More nutes are very strong. It's very easy to nute burn the plants with them I've found.

Seedling to about 2 weeks (plain water + 1 mL/gallon SuperThrive.)
2 weeks to end of vertical growth (Grow More Sea Grow 16-16-16 at 1/4 teaspoon per gallon.)
End of vertical growth/start of actual bloom (Hawaiian Bud 5-50-17 at 1/4 teaspoon per gallon.)
Last two weeks to harvest (plain water.)

This schedule may tentatively change.

The Grow Environment/HVAC

The room has been traditionally very hot. I have a large window air conditioner that will be providing cooling in addition to a single vent that will be exhausting cooled central air. With the 1000W HPS, the grow tent temperatures had been ranging from around 85 degree F to 105 degrees F.

Right now, it's currently 39 degrees F outside, 75 degrees F inside the grow tent with lights completely off. 800 ppm's CO2.

There are two 400W HPS lights also currently being used in the grow room.

For available fans, I have:
One 6" 400 CFM centrifugal in-line fan
One 8" 720 CFM centrifugal in-line fan
Three 6" 240 CFM in-line can fans
Several clip-on fans, oscillating fans, floor fans, etc.

Odor Control:

I have an aging, past it's prime and not doing much good 6" iPower carbon scrubber. I'll be giving the filter a good wash and giving the side of the canister a good tapping with a rubber mallet, but ultimately a new scrubber is getting bumped up on the list. Smell hasn't been a huge concern with the location of the space, but safety first!

I also will be employing two ONA misters with various ONA canisters. I have used ONA products in the past (block, gel, concentrate liquid, and mister canisters,) and I have been very happy with the results in addition to carbon scrubbing. I have never noticed any ill or adverse effect to using ONA around the plants in any stage, but will definitely keep an eye out on funny smells or tastes!

The Game Plan:

I plan on germing the beans today or tomorrow and then we're off! I'll be doing picture updates here shortly on the Mars II 1600W LED and the Mars Grow Tent!

daaamn man, i was just looking at that light and was curious if the standard spectrum is not a big deal with autos?or is the switchable spectrum better..LOL!! cant wait to see ya use that.frigin nice light.:Sharing One: Im looking at the 192X3 reflector.seems rather reasonable and swappable spectrum too.so we'll see. or in that size do they offer standard as well as swapable too?:Sharing One:

Wooooooooo Hoooooooo! I'm on board for this one! Using 2 of my favorite brands, Mars Hydro and Grow More. If your going to use soil mixes, you should look into Grow More Organic Soil Builder, and Organic Flower and Bloom. They are dry, organic nutes, basically a super soil type mix of nutes in a box. And very inexpensive. If you like, take a look at my thread: Pop's 2015 Indoor Garden and see my Blue Dragon growing in $3.00 organic soil amended with soil builder. I'm considering the Sea Grow for a outdoor project this summer. I'm going to try growing a giant pumpkin. Hoping for at least 100LBS this first attempt.

Can't wait to see you results on this grow, Good Luck! :Sharing One:

EDIT: Make that my THREE favorite brands, how did I miss the Mephisto girls?? LOL!

This'll be fun! That's a lot of light :)

EoF - It's been my experience that with the Reflector Series, it's just better to leave it on veg/bloom both on.
Just give em everything it's got :)

Eof I just got the 192 x 3 in yesterday I'll be getting a thread started over the weekend
