THATS WHAT I THOUGHT!! I thought it was very weird that I’m not in the flower yet. And I was wondering, if pulling the tertiary growth off prevent prevented it from getting into flower. It looks like that could’ve been the case.
Not sure what you mean by tertiary growth, but if you are referring to branches on branches on branches i get it. First branch, off that comes secondary growth, and off that tertiary? I dont keep it so defined. I just try to remove what isnt helping the plant do what i want it to. I remove the lowest 25%-30% of all growth on the plant, after that i only take leaves that inhibit light and airflow, i keep as many budsites or growth tips exposed as possible and will only remove what doesnt get adequate light and airflow.

What exactly is tertiary growth?
tertiary means 3. so its the thirds growth. The first is the stem, it pokes right up out of the seed, as the stem grows and develops some leaves, branches (secondary growths) begin to grow at each node. Then as those branches grow out, they develop more branches (tertiary growth)

Yep, you got it. I did that to minimize waste. I replied to a different person with a clearer definition in this thread

I already know it's going to be a crowded plant so why not let the secondary branches develop really strong? Then let them explode. I learned this technique with pepper plants. I don't remember exactly.. but i think it was thew fact that i pulled off all the flowers to force the plant to veg until it doubled it flowering sites enough. I might have pulled off other growths too i don't remember. Hugely successful

Just remember not all plants respond the same ways as autoflowers, peppers like a lot of abuse, topping, stripping, and alot of techniques that if applied wrong to autos can be devastating if done at the wrong time. But we love to experiment here, so if any of those techniques help out your cannabis plants then please share them with us!

Aka suckers. I'll usually remove them all when the plants show sex. And then kinda pluck as needed throughout the rest of the grow. But I'm pretty low effort. Pruning your plants will depend on what works for you combined with time and energy spent. But everybody does it differently. Some people won't touch a plant and some people will mess with every branch. You'll figure out what works for you eventually :pass:

Ok I see what you mean. I’ll remove a few of those way down low too when I defol near the end of pre flower stretch. My plants are only 34 days old and starting to stretch, no defol yet so I can’t even see the tertiary branches lol. This was a couple days ago..

Those 2 bigger ones look good, do you leaf tuck? even the smaller one looks like it got an expensive haircut.

My thinking is - why not remove tertiary growths/suckers before they become bigger branches? I remember doing this with pepper plants, and the quicker i removed growths, the better for the plant. There were huge size increases. In the case of the pepper i was pulling thew flowers, BUT how quickly i pulled the flowers determined how much resources went into them and therefore how much resources were wasted. Im assuming theres a similar principal with my cannabis strain. We want to waste the least amount of fixed carbon possible.

Id guess some strains wouldnt benefit from this technique. Like stretchy sativas with smaller bud sites because you want all the sites you can get.

We will see at harvest if the technique pays off

Thats rad! Stoked for you! Keep us posted! I guess it all depends on the outcome you are going for and how you want your plants to end up. Happy growing!

Oh I totally get the logic I just didn’t know the term. The small plant on right self topped herself after the 3rd node and back left got stunted when my dog almost tugged her out of the pot when she was young. And yeah this grow I’m trying all leaf tucking, I usually have clipped a few big fans by now.

After my pseudo flush yesterday i fixed up 1100ppm in the reservoir, PH'd to 5.8. This gets the intake water up to 6/6.2. They look happy again, no more twisting. Reservoir is flowing.
