Growing in coco for 16 months now,5 grows 17 plants, with Flora trio,Cal Mag,RO water and KoolBloom when it's time.Had great success with yield and potency so far but only half of those plants had a really good\great taste.I know and understand that genetics have a lot to do with it but even some Mephisto stuff i grew was not up to par and some seedbanks house brands were amazing.
Reading about extra nutrients during budding has me confused even more.Sounds like someone wants to grab more cash from me sometimes selling me those expensives ''nectarsbudcandyjuices''.
GH wants 40 somebucks for FloraNectar quart (assuming i stay in the GH line). Some others are near 70$ a liter!!

Soooo,do those flavors and taste enhancers really works? Which ones? DIY recipes? Is soil and organic weed tastier then coco and salts weed? Is it all genetics related? :pass:
What can i do to improve taste and aromas?
Thanks!

i always found the GH trio a bit lacking in the smell department my friend used it for years in hydro
in my opinion yes they do work i didnt use them and was having the same issues as you then i tried canna boost night and day difference to be honest way better end product yes they tend to be expensive but necessary yes theres probably other ways to do it but im unaware of them
another thing that cant be overlooked is the cue and burping the jars correctly this is even more important than using sweeteners to enhance the flavor

Yes,this is the last 2 grows with GH trio as i wanna change to something with easier mixing for watering twice a day.All that mixing is getting old.
Also found out today that GH=Monsanto ??? :yoinks:
But i like coco and i'm looking at Megacrop for future grows.

Move to soil!

No really. If I run coco, it is for weight. Sometimes you need that, but many flavors and smells come from the medium.
An example. I live in the bay area California. Many of the strains will have a sweet earthy undertone, that comes from the grape pomace that gets added to the compost. Remove it, it's gone, so gelato 33 here smells and tastes different than the same cut grown in Oregon soil. Grow it in coco and that is different from the other 2.
For personal runs, I'm always in soil.

...but...but...coco is so easy for this beginner. No pest,no over-under watering,no too hot soil for seedlings, nice harvest and top notch potency!
But,i DO want more taste.
Decisions will have to be made here. What's a good start to finish water-only soil for beginners?

I don't use a water only soil. I run Nectar #4 soil, 1 run plain (its mild stuff) with nectar for the gods nutes. Then it goes outdoor and is mixed with compost for run 2 &3. I still push with nutes, but I use the NFTG line. Never had better looking or smelling weed. And hard as rocks (this I attribute to them using the calcium molecule for transport instead of salts). Been at this a piece, done flood and drain for a couple years, dwc, coco, soil. I stick with the last 2 now. Coco for market, soil for me.

Edit: yes coco is easy. But, this is all about learning and improving right?

Like TF has said a good cure is very beneficial to bringing out flavours and potency in some cases... molasses added in flower can be good too, or adding UV for trich production works also... that being said whatever works for you, if you've been disappointed with a strain would you try it again?.. is it worth growing again with these bud candies etc just to be disappointed again?... check out whats in them!.. its usually not a lot more than sugars and carbs cleverly packaged imo!.. Good luck,
Easy now!..
