Mephisto Genetics Any rosin aficionados out there in Mephistoville?

I would think it would be down to each phenotype not each plant. I have no evidence just my thinking. Unless you mess the plant up, I would think all Ripleys OG that are dank as fuck and smell like hot sick like mine will make great rosin. This was twice as sticky as anything else I have grown. Here is some rosin from it at very low temp like 190 or so. It was like a paste or what I would think was similar to crumble. Never had it, but when made this I thought that may be why they call it that. Another temp gave me what looked like crack rocks. Very stable stuff.

That stuff I want. The stuff I squished was from one of my first grows and its very sappy. The material was not high quality nug. That sappy stuff is hard to work with in forming something that you can drop in to the coils on a wax pen. Would be easier to drop a dab in to an oil rig for sure. Wax pens are tricky to load up. I ended up with a 1/3 gram that was all over my hands that I could not recover. Just had to wipe it off with ISO. And something like crumble or rocks would be easier. Looks like some trials are going to be needed and some stuff will be great rosin and some not so great.

Yep, that's how it goes. Try it, if no good you'll know then. Only way to find out. The better material the better result, but some stuff just don't work. Also helps if you have a press. Big difference between a press and a hair straightener.

Try putting it in the freezer, then collecting it. May make enough of a difference in being able to collect it.

I did chill it and that helps but not enough. I'm going to get a dental pick tool. I think that might give me more precision and i might be able to cut chunks off and drop in the pen. I'm just learning so I expect a bit of trial and error!

My rosin was pressed on a friends DIY hydrolic press with plates and controller. Works excellent. I tried an iron before and hated it. Press is way better. I'm now on the hunt for a good 20 ton shop press for cheap. And for plates/controller I'll order from lowtemp. I have the master plan, just need to get some funds together.

I was gonna get a 12 ton but went with the 6 ton because 6 ton press is more than enough bro. My pucks are flat as can be, it's over kill. I got a harbor freight 6 ton a frame table top size with the 25% off for $60usd. Got my plate kit off eBay for $250usd. Don't let me change your mind but food for thought. I thought the 12 ton would be better but can't make any flatter. I saved a bunch with the 6 ton, plus i can pick it up and move no problem. I see people on YouTube with 20 ton press setups and I would be worried about cracking my plates with to much pressure. I made good rosin with a straightener, so just my thoughts bud.

Rosin is strain dependent and pheno dependent. Also, bud dryness makes a difference in quantity and quality. Too dry, it VAPORIZES. Too wet...runny/watery. Some strains are not worth pressing, as @Seabass pointed out. A High Terpene strain will yield less and it will be runny. If you find a strain doesn't press well... accept it and move on. Or waste a SHIT ton of material.

Just a tip for loading pens, if you don’t have a dabber (which are like $5) use a paper clip (or said dabber) put the glob you want to load into the pen on the end, then heat the dabber towards the middle with a lighter. This will heat up the oil enough to make it fall right into your pen, but not hot enough to degrade quality.

Pressed some Double Grape for mananas festivities. Tiny bit of plant matter but still turned out

That looks yummy man!!!

So you guys seem to know the score.... is it worth my while making bubble hash and then pressing this with some temp control straighteners and a set of vice grips or am I wasting my time? I want to make dabs with the non dabbable bubble hash (say that 5x fast after a few dabs [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23])

Sent from a rock in the sea!
