1st grow using space bucket, 2nd grow all in all

Hi guys,

So last summer I grew 2 autos on my windowsill and had pretty good results considering the summer weather wasn't as I hoped (typical British weather) however this year i have made a space bucket and will be germinating a seed soon, ive opted for blue cheese from Royal Queen Seeds. The reason I've opted for a space bucket is because I am very limited for space where I live and I am only growing for my own personal use, I vape my bud and only vape of a night time so aren't interested in copious amounts of weed.
The parts I have used for my space bucket are as follows..

  • 5x 20litre buckets
  • 2x 120mm AC Infinity s3 fans
  • 300w led mrhua grow light
  • 5630 SMD warm white led Strip lights (for side lighting during flower)
  • AC Infinity s4 4inch extractor fan
  • AC Infinity 4inch carbon filter
  • Duct tape
  • Diamond mylar (not really needed for white buckets)
  • Glue gun
To begin with I opened up my LED light and flipped the fan so as opposed to blowing downwards into the bucket it blows the air out the top, I then attached the light to the underside of the lid and cut holes for the switches, fan etc. I then placed one of my 120mm fans ontop of this to add as extra suction, I also added a 4inch flange ontop of my 120mm fan so that I can connect ducting, extractor fan and filter later on in the grow during flower. I installed my other 120mm fan into the bottom bucket where my plant pot will be situated i have the option of not running the fan and using it as a passive air intake or running it on either of the 3 speeds available to control temp and humidity if needed. I've sealed all gaps with a glue gun and am in the process of wrapping the rest of the outside with duct tape to avoid light leaking in or out of the bucket. The bottom bucket I have also lined with mylar, although I could have just left it white, it would have been easier to do this aswell but hey ho. I then cut my other 4 buckets down to use as spacers in order to be able to extend or reduce the light hight as needed throughout my grow. I have also drilled holes in the bottom bucket for any run off and used the bottom of a bucket i used as a spacer to make a drip tray out of. I will be adding a hygrometer at some point so that I can keep track on the temp and humidity levels within the grow bucket. I will also use a mid section of a cut down bucket to install my LED strips to allow me to slide inside the buckets for my required hight during flower to ensure the lower canopy is receiving some sort of light. Please let me know what you think, any tips/tricks or questions etc will be very much welcomed and appreciated.

Today I have finished wrapping the outside in duct tape, had to double wrap as light was still shining through in places, also attached my 5630 smd LED's to the mid section of a bucket to slide into the grow bucket during flower. Seed is currently in my airing cupboard in a wet paper towel and placed inside a small plastic box, I will check on it in around 48hours

Quick temp check before I start putting her to use, managed to get her at a steady temp adjusting fan speeds etc, obviously when the plant is in these factors will alter the temps and humidity but I'm feeling confident I have the equipment to adjust accordingly. Will be purchasing a humidifier which I will place just outside the intake fan if humidity is to drop. Still need to drill holes in the bottom too

Brilliant thinking love em tag me when your growing in there please :greenthumb:

Nice brother! The bucket is looking nice!! You planning on topping or manifolding?
I think I'm gonna try topping with some lst i want to keep the canopy as low as possible giving the limited hight.. if needs be I can buy more buckets to make more spacers out of in order to elevate the light if needed

Seem to have messed up when potting my germinated seed into soil, think I over compensated on not giving it to much water and not gave it enough, temps were dialed in perfectly and had a bottle over the top but wasn't creating any condensation. Was expecting some sort of break through this morning but nothing. Moved the top layer of soil to see what was going on (naughty of me i know) and didn't look like much was happening. After deciding I hadn't wet the soil enough I decided to pop another seed in to germinate and removed the seed from the soil and repotted in a fresh pot with moister soil. Taproot was still in tact but not feeling hopeful but I've popped some wrap over the top and put back in the bucket to see what happens through the night. Feel like a newb all over again but this is something I will learn from. I am normally a person who puts to much of something into or onto something so tried to be cautious and completely underestimated howmuch water to put in the soil

Quick check on the seedling I tried to salvage yesterday and it seems to be making some progress, got helmet head but it looks like it can deal with it without my intervention, ive took the wrap off the top now to let it breath as I dont want to creat any mould etc will just monitor it throughout the day and give a light misting if soil starts to feel dry. This plant seems like a fighter even if it doesn't make it its put up a fight and tried to make it. Just goes to show how hardy these plants actually are. As for the seed I popped in paper tissue yesterday, no sign of taproot yet but its still early days.

New seed been planted straight into soil, no paper towl method etc. Think I'm going to do this in future instead of over complicating things. Day 2 above soil, seed husk was stuck to her but just misted through out the day yesterday then gave a final misting this morning and flicked it off GENTLY with a pair of tweezers. You can get an idea of if it is time to flick it off or not by how easily it moves if it isn't budging dont force it. Just keep gently misting every couple of hours until it comes of with hardly any effort. I found this worked for me. I'm going to keep her under 24hours light for the rest of the day then tomorrow put her on an 18/6 light cycle.

My baby is 5 days old today, just lifted pot up and noticed a couple of roots sticking out of the bottom so thinking I need to transplant ASAP as I don't want her to become root bound, however I'm thinking it's abit to early for a transplant as she is not very tall aswell as still being not even a week old

.. what you think guys transplant or will she be OK a week or so longer?

I usually just plant in final container. You cud transplant now or wait a bit. Either way. The bigger it gets the harder it may be to transplant.
