A quick intro to blogs

hey there! Welcome to our lil blog quick start guide. The blogging system here in afn allows creators a few more options as far as recording, organizing, and presenting all sorts of cool things.
they are chock full of options but can be a little overwhelming at first.
we wanted to share a few tips on getting started. We won’t go over a lot of options or detail any of the really in depth features that are available, this will be more of a quick start up that will help you produce clean blogs, entries, and pages.

In this example we will be using a simplified setup that will include a blog, a blog entry, and a page.

We will be creating a blog for mephisto genetics mango smile, so our “map” will look something like this….

BLOG-Mephisto Genetics

BLOG ENTRY- Mango Smile

PAGE- weekly updates for our mango smile

So the BLOG will act as our general hub, we want to keep the BLOG name itself a bit open so that we can add the appropriate stuff into it later. In our example, the name Mephisto Genetics allows us the opportunity to add additional mephisto grows into this BLOG whenever we need/want.

HOW TO CREATE A BLOG

Step 1- once signed in to afn open the forum menu, located upper left corner on mobile

Step 3- select Create Blog

Step 4- give the blog a title, for this example we will use Mephisto Genetics as the title. Fill in the body with pertinent details, info, questions, etc.

Step 5- we need to add a picture before we can save and publish the blog, so use the Attach files option and select the image that you want to use.

Step 6- once the image has been added you can now save the blog which will publish it and make it visible for view and comments and such. Lets take a look at our new blog.

Now we have a hub of sorts, our next step is going to be to create a BLOG ENTRY associated with our BLOG.

For this example our BLOG ENTRY will be called Mango Smile.

The BLOG ENTRY allows us now the opportunity to get as specific as we want, so we will use the BLOG ENTRY to introduce the plant in question, list nutes, techniques, materials used, etc.

HOW TO CREATE A BLOG ENTRY

Step 1- get to our blog and open it up.

Step2- select the Post Entry option, this will begin the creation of our BLOG ENTRY

Step3- select a category to file the blog under, we recommend indoor growers if that is appropriate.

Step 4- create a title, for our example the title will be Mango Smile. Fill in the body with anything pertinent to the plant, the medium, lights used, etc. We want to identify this specific plant here without delving into any of the specific weekly grow details yet, we will create PAGES for that in the next section.

Step 5- we need to add a picture here before we can save and publish this entry, so use the Attach Files option and select the image that you want to use.

Step 6- once we have selected and added our image we can now save. There are a few options available as we add our pictures and go to save the BLOG ENTRY but we are going to ignore them for now.

Now we have our first BLOG ENTRY in our first BLOG, woot.

The next step in our setup/example here is going to be to create a Page. the PAGE is where we will keep our grow updates for the specific plant in this BLOG ENTRY.

For this example we will create a PAGE called “Week 0”, that includes the details of week 1 for our Mango Smile plant.

HOW TO CREATE A PAGE

Step 1- once we are inside our BLOG ENTRY we need to open up the More Options box, and then select Manage Pages. This will allow us to create, edit pages associated with this particular BLOG ENTRY.

Step 2- select the Add Page option

Step 3- we will title this 1st PAGE Week 0, and then we will fill out the body with the details and information, questions, comments, etc associated with that week of growing our Mango Smile.

Step 4- pictures are not mandatory for pages but we will add any pictures, media to this page by selecting the Attach File option and selecting our images to use.

Step 5- with the PAGE you do have an option that we will look at now, the option to publish this PAGE as a draft, or as visible. A fantastic option, tho for this example we would choose visible and then we can Save the PAGE which will publish it into our BLOG ENTRY.

Remember back in the beginning we had mapped out the blog, BLOG to BLOG ENTRY to Page.

Now the map has been filled in and would look something like this…

Mephisto Genetics--Mango Smile--Week 0

This gets us started with a simple, quick easy blog setup.

In this example we would go into our BLOG called Mephisto Genetics, open the BLOG ENTRY called Mango Smile, and create a new PAGE every week as mango smile grew until the grow ended, and at that point we would go in and wrap up the BLOG ENTRY for mango smile.

if and when we grew out and needed to record another strain from Mephisto Genetics, we would simply go into that original BLOG, and create a new BLOG ENTRY that would be where we recorded the new grows/strains, then fill that new BLOG ENTRY with PAGES as needed, rinse and repeat.

Simple easy approach, and will work for single plant grows or multiple staggered grows. Not at all the best way or only way to get going with blogs but this bare bones approach will have you up and blogging in no time!

if you have the time take a look at the actual blog we just created in this intro. It’s just started so there’s not a lot of content yet but that’ll change as we add our pages to cover updates and such!
