Every week the girls learn a new trick. This week it's the branches, each growing faster than the whole plant did when it was their size. The girls have been a little spoiled with full days of outdoor sun, and nights under QB LED's. But I have nosy visitors this weekend and next, so for now they're banished to the basement under lock and key. Starting last night they're getting 20 hours a day of artificial light (Yuson 65w, HLG100, and HLG65). I used a phone app PPFD meter, roughly calibrated to published HLG specs. The height of the lights is based on a PPFD reading of 600 at canopy. I know it's not accurate, but it gave me confidence to give them a lot more light, which they seem to like. From left to right, here's Bubble Gum Auto, Purple Kush Auto, and Northern Lights Auto:
Northern Lights, at 35 days old, is a little behind her sisters because her first 2 weeks she was starved for light. I bent her over once I saw a 4th node developing. She started to bend to the right, so I'm encouraging her to spiral in that direction (with the long white wire). She has 8 little branches I've been trying to keep in the sun to get them to catch up with the main cola. I'm thinking she might start to flower any day though, so maybe they won't have time to grow that much? Anyway, here's a closeup:
Bubble Gum is 28 days old. I've given her the same LST as her older sister, bending over the new growth on the main cola (with the long black wire) and spreading or tucking leaves and branches to sun the lower growth points. I guess it's working, because some of the lower branches are as high as the main cola:
Purple Kush Auto had the advantage of more light when she was small, and she's a smaller, faster breed too. She seems very vigorous at 21 days old with her wide indica leaves. She's almost as grown as her older sisters. I wasn't gonna give her any training, but since the baby branches weren't getting much sun, I did a little spreading, tucking and bending:
That's all the news until next week. Thanks to all who've helped me get this far. I plan to start more seeds on 7/1, so that when these girls get grown the new babies will be coming along.
