The sign I look for that blooming is well under way is what I call zig-zagging. I've never read about it before and I'm not sure it's a real thing but I have observed it in both my auto and photo plants. It's where the leaf pairs on the branches are offset from one another, causing the branch to bend one way and then back the other. Here's a pic that you might be able to see what I'm talking about. Notice how the branch on the upper right bends at the leaf joints which contain only one leaf instead of the usual pair.
I haven't yet seen tufts of white pistils but this main cola does appear to getting ready for some serious calyx production. Although she is still gaining height by 2 inches per day.
