Lunar Planting.

Morning Growers

This is my fourth grow and the good results I've had are only due to the superb group of experienced growers that have been kind enough to share their knowledge and experience with us newbies on AFN.

I'm a big advocate of utilising the moon phases for my angling and I thought why not use it for cultivation. If good results are achieved, maybe somebody will take something from it following the old age traditions of planting in sync with lunar phases.

The basic principal is that the moon has a pulling effect on all water, this includes the sap in plants. The sap rises during the waxing moon and falls towards the roots when it wanes.

The moon also passes in front of each sign of the zodiac during the month, spending roughly 2.5 days in each one. Each sign corresponds to an element which in turn corresponds to the best crops to plant.

  • Root days are the best to plant root crops when the moon passes in front of the “Earth” signs of Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn.
  • Leaf days are leafy crops of spinach, lettuce etc. during the “water” signs of Cancer Scorpio, and Pisces.
  • Flower days for cauliflower, broccoli, and flowers passing the “air” signs of Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.
  • Fruit/seed days for tomatoes, onions, garlic, peppers passing the “fire” signs of Aries, Leo, Saggitarius.
The 13/02/20 is apprently the next best day to plant, this is when the moon passes through Aquarius on the first few days of a waxing crescent.

The time between the new Moon and the full Moon is (the waxing of the Moon), and the time between the full Moon and the new Moon (is the waning of the Moon).

I'm using the time between now and the above date to get my garden in order.

For this grow, I'm using 16litre self watering Lechuza planters in a 2x4 space, Bio-Bizz light for my medium and Advanced Nutrients PH perfect Grow and Bloom.

Once a week, I like to feed the microbes using Black Strap molasses and new to me on this grow, is Remo nutrients Velvo Kelp. I've seen amazing results from users here on AFN and this will be used throughout the vegetative stage as a daily foiler spray. For my light source I have the Migro 100+ gen4 COB and the new 120W Migro Aray with the additional RED leds.

The Lechuza pots have a removable inner section that creates a void at the bottom of the container. This area is used to hold your water and nutrient solutions and is accessed by a removable cap. There is a gauge to one side where the cap located that contains a polystyrene float, this corresponds to how much water is being retained.

It is virtually impossible to overwater and its design allows for excellent drainage and root development.

Until the next update, keep it green.

Ive tagged @hope2grow , let me know if you want to sub, I'll tag you in.

Both girls will be topped and LST following the tried and tested method highlighted by Autobeast in his brillnt thread Auto topping thread, pushing the auto limits;) and autobeast, how to grow a perfect healthy auto. start to finish

You’ll be off to a good start, do you have a journal running?

I've accidentally planted my latest girl to benefit from the moon, she's fallen nicely. Planted 24th and popped above ground on 26th.

I have 2 identical sisters in there that weren't so fortunate so be interesting to see how they all get on.

@DeanOnAuto no. l'm not a photo snapper as a rule. I don't even take selfies or own/use a cellphone ... Too much info stored on photos these days that l don't want or need out in the world. l could use the EMCO Photo Resizer which removes the info when you resize your pics with their app l guess. This will be my first ever run indoors with my new 150 X 150 X 200 tent & a 1000w HPS/MH switchable ballast/light and all the ventilation gear and nutrients l bought piece-meal last year over a period of several months with my COVID relief money (Thanks Justin Trudeau!) and it might get ugly and be not for public viewing. Been growing since '86 to '04 with a divorce caused hiatus lasting until last summer on the back "patio". I am usually an outdoorsman/greenhouse grower & not really familiar with the intricacies involved growing indoors with lights, eh? l figure the Lebanon & Kif Ketama X Bagseed will be done and be removed from the grow tent before the sativa New Caledonia & Rif Kafrine really stretch and take off on their 14+ week blooming period mission and need the room to roam. Gonna run 'em all on 11/13 cycle after 14-16 days of 24/7 veg under my trusty 48" fluorescent fixture to keep the long day strains under control AND pump out the buds on the earlier strains, I don't care if the Lebanon & Kif Ketama Xs will be short AF or if they don't veg for months.

The girl that broke ground on the 26th is going to be a monster I'm sure. :smoking::vibes:
I have one that looks like it's coming through, planted on the 21st and the other girl didn't make it, seed still sat there, nothing doing. Previous grows, the girls have been up in 3 days, these have really taken their time.

One has been tossed, I'm starting that one again, this is the 3rd time!FFS. This one will get sowed Monday, Tuesday is also another good day to sow. Happy growing, happy dreaming :smoking:

Here she is I have High Hopes she is gonna be bigger than her sisters.

I just checked my tent, there is nothing doing at all, one I thought was coming through just had one leaf and was a dud. I'm going to refrain from touching these genetics again I think. Thats 5 seeds that have done double nothing. It's a sad day, I've switched the equipment off until I can re germinate some seeds and try again. This will be the third attempt and I've now run out of moon days for a while, if I wish to pursue lunar planting. So far it's been a total shambles and very demoralising :sadcry: Happy growing, happy dreaming:smoking:

You wouldn't get demoralised if somebody sent you a broken TV brother so don't let something beyond your control dishearten you. Whilst I have every faith the lunar logic is a thing you could always start something straight away then start a sister when the lunar time comes round again then you really could compare the effects. Real talk don't let broken tools get you down just replace them. Sending good vibes your way matey

I get insomnia around full moon so I can relate to the concept. After all it is where we get the words Lunatic and Moonstruck from, so why not for plants too.

Tho I find climatic conditions to be more of a factor . . . and some Auto's will just 'fail' a bit like some veg at the allotment but an interesting concept for organic and holistic farmers.

The lunar planted Chemdawg is in her final stages of life and she has exceeded her sisters in terms of size and potency before even chopping her.
The smell is out of this world and the buds are fatter than the US Military defence budget.
There's something to this lunar planting life....

She's a beauty, a very happy looking lady. When you harvest her, if you wait for the waning crescent, this will ensure all the resins and terps are in the uppermost parts of the plant as it gets drawn up throughout the plant by the moons pull.:d5: :vibes:

That's awesome but how far off is that she's being flushed now so only got 10-14 days left in soil.

She STINKS!

The first day from today that will ensure all the goodness is in the plant and not the roots/stems is the 27th May, which might just see you right for your time scale. The moon creates the waning crescent from the 27/05/21 until the 06/06/21 as it passes through Scorpio into Sagittarius, these are all good harvest days. :smoking: :vibes:
