pHilosophy around measurements

So I started managing my pH levels. I decided I want to be as close to 6 as I can now because it makes managing water for all the different grow stages, at once, easier for me. I'm old, I forget shit all over the place and I need for stuff to be simple. And I smoke the best weed chronically. I forget to put on pants sometimes. But I do remember reading online how this strain prefers this and that and who knows, I might get into it one day. For now it's half a mil per serving of water.

Insurance company sent me a CO2 meter in the mail because I've installed a wood burner. So I played around with it a bit in the grow because why not. I'm reading about CO2 all over the place. I have slightly elevated atmospheric levels in my grow tent. When I turn the exhaust fan down levels go up. When I blow smoke in the tent levels rocket and the meter starts beeping like a truck in reverse.
I continued experimenting a bit. A candle outside the air intake raised the CO2 with fan running by 90. An oil candle, the ones you put on graves or in your backpack for the zombie apocalypse that burns for days with a colder flame, raised the CO2 levels by 200.

My tent has good circulation.

Just some observations. Dont leave candles burning.

When I fart on the device it only spikes by a mere 100. I am very disappointed with this.

I'm thinking about other stuff I wanna try before I put it up on the wall in the hallway like it says I should. Like my old moist truck I haven't aired out in a year.

Shit. I have grown an addiction to measuring stuff. pH. EC. Air quality. Why do I feel this need to collect data on my environment all of the sudden? Age crisis perhaps.

Maybe I should try tinder.

I feel your pain, Brother! One comment, if this REALLY bothers you, be happy you're not hydro (like me!).
It IS an addiction, but I don't know if there's a reliable detox method. I need this more than my plants need this. Almost every day, checking EC & pH. Checking the hygrometer for min / max / current temperature. Measuring distance from my light to my plant canopy. Calculating how much RO water to add to my reservoir to reduce ppm's to my formulaic standards. Yes, I have built a spreadsheet that calculates how many milliliters of each of ten different nutrient / additives to add to one, two, three... twelve gallons of liquid in my reservoir. Or how much to add when transitioning from each of my twelve growth stages from germination to harvest. I think it's twelve... I'm not in my grow room where I keep my grow logs and printed spreadsheets.
If you think that's bad, try tracking yields when your spouse smokes 'da shit faster than I can dry it. I have to hide MY stash in the nightstand drawer behind the condoms so it can gracefully age into a good cure. It's behind the condoms because I know she won't look there... "You want to stick it WHERE?????"
And why is a milliliter the same as a cubic centimeter?
And do we REALLY need shot glasses AND jiggers?

Is it an age crisis? Maybe... but I no longer have to work every day for a living, and I think I need the mental masturbation in order to remember where I left my moral compass. And my REAL compass, which is so much more elegant than an AllTrails app on my phone.
Yeah, about the mental masturbation part, I promised my Mama I'd quit when I needed glasses. So did Ray Charles & Stevie Wonder. Reminds me, time to make another appointment to get my eyes checked again.

Carry on, Brother, carry on.

I've spent a majority of my life working with exotic animals. One thing I have learned over the years is how important data is, once something goes wrong. It can be the difference in figuring out the issue in minutes/hours, rather than days/weeks. So I collect every shred of data I can, and record it, meticulously. And when I say every shred, I mean, every, single, shred. I even record wattage use, and external environmentals. I measure PAR, PPFD, DLI, CCT, and Illuminance. I record amounts of water runoff, and even go as far and using a gradient chart to record the color for later comparison. And I take about a hundred other readings. There can never be enough nuanced data.

So, from one very OCD grower, I salute your "addiction".
