Terminology

I have just this last year been present online. Wow. I haven't really been interested in the internet at all since a ton of laws and stuff about surveillance came in place where I'm at.

But here I am, reading about my hobby. There's so much new stuff and words and things. Technology is CRAZY. Isn't it strange how everything leans towards automation? What are we gonna do then? 😂 Imagine what we would focus on then, if AI grew our weed and perfectly dried it and cured it for us. WHATCHA GONNA DO NOW?

So personally, I'm against it. Tech is enough now. I want to have some kind of manageable problems so I can get the feeling of being productive in some area of my life.

My shrink dont look like the kinda guy who would find me here.

I wanted to clear out what a flush really is in the chat a week ago but they didn't understand what I was asking for and a mod got irritated and a noob saw me down and started jumping on me and now they can go flush each other for all I care 🖕

🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕

What I was trying to understand was; If it's a FLUSH, is it with just pHd water or is it with nutrition solution? Is it a FLUSH no matter what I use to flush with?

So I started chatting on this UK based site instead. It's about dogs really, or so I thought, it was actually about fucking strangers in public parks and such establishments. Anyhow, a guy I started chatting with there said he could teach me about flushing but I needed to get to a parking lot in the middle of the night and it was a right hassle I tell ya so no.

It doesn't matter. I have it mapped out in my head. I know what I mean at least. I have probably never flushed then. I have just changed the water as I have always called it, when it's been time to change nutritional values. So I WASH the old nutes out of the medium and I put new nutes in.

I have never trained a plant either I suppose. I just bend them on "the net" so they form flat and more flowers can be exposed to the light.

I can think like this right, but it gets difficult to communicate with others.

I am also trying to understand what benefit it would have to feed your plants until there's expensive nutritional solution running out the bottom of your pots into your drain and away to destroy nature. I don't understand.

I mean, sure, a little bit might come out the bottom and the soil will suck it up and we cool, but the amounts I see some people overuse online, my god. Please someone explain this to me.

I'm joking there with the finger thing right, I hope you get that 👍 No offense, all respect, trying to be funny to read, is all.

There are many way to skin a cat, even more ways to grow weed... thats the fun and wonder of it all innit, and i guess the people in car parks who go dogging feel the same about their hobby :dizzy:

I do agree on the automation stuff, and run off and wasting nutes etc, however, lots of people grow fantastic plants, immense plants, stupendous plants with gazillions of trichs and mega high quality buds using many training methods, a shit ton of automation, a shit ton of hands on work and a shit ton of expense, others like me seem to drop off the more I read and attempt to add all the sciency and automation stuff, it takes all kinds to make the world go around.

Flushing is quite a contentious subject on all weed sites I have visited, so its like this (imho) if you feel like washing out the old nutes, salts buildup, over dose etc go ahead and use plain water for a while, if you are ok with the situation and your plants are happy, then why bother, if you think that flushing with plain water is good for the end result "smoke" during the last couple of weeks of flower, is the way to go, then try it.
If you think its all bro science, leave it at that, I have tried flushing with plain for water the last couple of weeks of flowering and not bothered on other grows, and I cant tell any difference....

i do think that if you have an overdose of nutes or excess salts buildup then a flush with plain water can help the roots and plants. buts an obvious fix to a mistake of overdosing.

Personally I would say that the online "Flushing debates" are not worthy of anyones time :baked:

Online, everybody grows insane bud. In reality, pretty much every grower out there grows weed they are happy with and they are enjoying themselves by nerding on stuff online. It's all there is mate.

I don't think I have ever had "flushed" weed but only "leached". Well, not the weed, the roots, you know what I mean. I, until a couple of weeks ago thought I had been flushing but apparently I never had. I have smoked others weed though but to my knowledge they have had the same terminology as me around it.

So I wouldn't know what it tastes like.

Personally I stop with nutes because I am cheap. Those are the price of nice whiskey, and gramma's dying anyway if you catch my drift.

Also I view the soil as clean after harvest. I just treat it a little bit of grow-cycle nutes and go with it again after that.

Sounds like good reasoning to me.

"Flushing" is technically leaching, which occurs when a volume of water removes water soluble nutrients in your medium. The rate of leaching increases as the volume of water increases.

When growing with salt-based nutrients, it's generally recommended to incorporate regular watering into your feed schedule where you'd water to run off, or around 33% of the volume of the container. This helps remove any residual salts and/or salt pockets that may have formed during normal feedings.

This is incredibly easy to do and can be added to virtually any feeding schedule on your own even if they don't have regular watering as part of the schedule.

Then there is "flushing" to try to fix issues with the medium, where maybe you accidentally overfed the plants (so you have a high concentration of nutrients you've poured into the medium,) where you're trying to "flush out" the water soluble nutrients from the medium with a large volume of water (generally more than just regular water-to-runff) to prevent further uptake by the plants so your plants don't fry.

When you have plant problems and someone tells you to flush the plant, this is what they mean.

It's also VERY HARD on your plant, can cause root issues (potential water logging), and it indiscriminately removes both the potential good/bad of what's in your soil.

THEN, there is harvest flushing cannabis, which is the hot topic debate in the cannabis community. The myth (and it's a myth) is that if you don't quit feeding your plants and give them only water for a week or two, you're going to taste all the fertilizer in your flower and the buds will smoke like shit. This has not only been disproven by thousands of growers that simply don't do it, there is far more scientific evidence available today that disproves and discredits the harvest flushing myth, meaning that it's just not a "real thing," and further, it may be more beneficial overall to the plants to simply keep providing nutrients up until harvest.

That was good man, thank you for your time. This is about how I understand it now.

I think debating in itself is worthy of my time. Communication, almost no matter of the subject, is a human value. A boss I had said something like "Let's never get to the bottom of anything, because then what would we debate over?"

fair call, but some debates more than others. :baked:
