Not much to report, sadly. My beans have been more stubborn than any seeds I've ever seen. I got them one week ago today, and started germinating with the stickied root riot method just to try something new. No luck for about three days. So after that, I bought I heating pad with a thermostat and tried the ol' paper towel after I rolled them in some mycorrhizae. Then it was set to 78 degrees with the still moist root riot cubes left in to keep things humid.

Three days later and I still didn't have jack. :face: Went to bed last night hoping maybe they were just being dicks or something. Woke up this morning to check the container...

Looks like the shells may have finally softened up a bit for taproots to start coming through. At least on the one in the middle. Hopefully these little guys don't turn out to be duds. I'd like to think I must have gone wrong somewhere because it's unlikely I got 5 bad seeds in the same pack. The odds are in their favor. If I did screw it up, I've thrown a poll out there where you have the chance to tell me if so and why. I'm taking all suggestions :greenthumb:

But if worse comes to worst, I've got some more beans coming in. In fact, it might not be so bad for things to take a little longer. My temporary room is set up and good to go for now, but my tent won't be ready until probably the weekend, which is around when the other beans would be here. Hopefully a slow start means we're just gonna build a whole lot of momentum. Stay tuned, guys, I promise it'll get more interesting.

Well, you've tried everything I would have tried. This problem appears to be beyond our advanced Lunar technology. Perhaps some primitive Earth grower can help.

I did some data collection on seed germination rates from various users on the forum here for a breeder last year. It was a competition with everyone having the same seed. It didn't seem like there was any 1 specific way to germinate that produced better results then another. Some guys were more stubborn and let their seeds go for 14+ days to get them to germinate. A couple were successful but for the most part if they didn't germ after 7-10 days it wasn't going to happen. Sometimes even fresh seeds don't have a good germination rate. The data I collected showed that even the best growers on here struggled to make them pop.

5/5 seeds not popping with your set up seems extreme. I use the same heat pad thermostat set up as you. I set mine to 79 but the difference is negligible. From my own personal experience I flubbed up a few seeds by letting it get to hot germinating on a cable modem. Before you got your heating pad/thermostat set up did the seeds maybe get to hot in the root riot ?

I have a suspicion that may be the case. I really hope not but it's hard to feel any other way when it's been a week. I have no reason to not keep trying until my other beans arrive so we'll keep at it until then.
