DWC First Timer - Day 14 - RQS Fat Banana Automatic & Diesel Automatic

Hello all,

Day 14 update on the DWC RQS grow, delayed by a day but better late than never.

19th August: Filled my separate 80 litre res with 50 litres tap water. 375ppm, 8.3 ph from source. Bubble 24 hours.

20th August: Added 1/4 strength Advanced Nutrients Ph Perfect Micro, Grow & Bloom. Bubbled for an hour or so. Solution was 425ppm and Ph dropped to 7.4. Added 9ml of Ph down bit by bit to reach 5.8. Bubble 24 hours.

21st August: Checked the solution, solution down to 375ppm and ph rise to 6.4. Changed the res solution.

Other Grow notes:

- Tent temp is 75-77f
- Solution temps are good at 69-72f
- Not seeing any visible stress issues but ph stability isn’t great. Today is up again to 6.7 and 350ppm (brighter pics).
- Hydroton seems a little dry compared to week 1.
- Roots looking good and growing rapidly.
- Bubbling solution is sitting 1.5 inches below bottom of net pots.

Let me know what you think guys.

Man I was just about to come lookin for you lol. The diesel looks a little light on N I think you could bump up the AN grow just a touch and it should help the diesel and shouldn’t affect the banana. I would say bump the grow up to 1/3 strength. Also you should not have to pH anything as the nutes are chelated. Your starting water is the issue. I know this is goin to be a pain in the ass but I think you need to get some bottled water my guy. Is it possible to go and fill a couple of the big 5 gallon dispenser bottles(like for a water cooler in an office) with some filtered water? Like from one of the things you pay 2 bucks and it will fill em up for you? With AN you are screwing with the pH perfect capability by adding the pH down I believe.

Ha yeh, managed to injure my back so been in recovery mode but always an eye on the tent!

I’ll go ahead and top up the AN with a diluted couple of litres.

I think you’re right about Ph Perfect. All the guidance points toward not having to mess with a ph down. The direct email I got from AN Support was that tap water anywhere between ph 4-8 will automatically be buffered by the nutrients. This might be a generic spectrum for all plants that thrive on hydro as the advice didn’t mention cannabis. Further to this, it seems the agreed range everywhere for these plants is 5.5-6.2....I’ll have to look into the chelation, I’ve seen it mentioned several times but not done the adequate reading.

Water is an issue. Finding a dispenser is going to be hard where I am, especially at that price. RO is not an option due to finances. Frustrating!

Gotcha. Ok so basically in a nutshell chleating means that the nutrients are available at a muuucch broader pH range. Lemme Think on a cheap solution for you.

I found one on ebay 100 gallon per day, approved by water association ‘regulatory body’ about 55$
